Stolen From The Providence Board - Changes in 2005 Good Or Bad

Good: WXCT 990 flipping from Spanish to news/talk. (which in my opinion was one of the most shocking changes this year)
Good: WATR 1320 flipping from Standards to Oldies.
Good: WSUB 980 flipping from news/talk to Spanish.
Good: WLXM 102.3 flipping from AC to News/talk.
Good: WPRX 1120 ending its short LMA by WLAT 910.
Good: WTIC 1080 Streaming online.
Good: WTIC adding The Dream Doctor Show.
Bad: WNEZ 1480 flipping from Gospel to Spanish.
Bad: WNLC 98.7 flipping from Spanish to Classic Hits.
Bad: Overkill of Husky Talk on WTIC 1080. It's okay that they carry the games, but do we need Husky talk shows before and after the games?

The Jury is still out: WILI AM/FM being sold to Hall Commuincations.

> Good: WTIC adding The Dream Doctor Show.

Isn't the Dream Doctor intended as somewhat of a Delilah for Hot ACs? At least that's what it sounded like on the Miami affiliate. So it would appear a bit out of place on a news/talk powerhouse.

> Bad: WNLC 98.7 flipping from Spanish to Classic Hits.

To be totally honest, I miss the reggaeton format that they used to have on WNLC :)

> Good: WXCT 990 flipping from Spanish to news/talk.
This station could go off the air tomorrow and the only people who would care are the people that work there and/or post here.

> Good: WATR 1320 flipping from Standards to Oldies.
Not surprising. It needed to happen eventually.

> Good: WSUB 980 flipping from news/talk to Spanish.
WSUB is now serving a listening audience that wasn't being served before. With sports, oldies and talk all on FM in that market, there wasn't much left for 980 to run anyway. Personally, I'd like to see a progressive talk format there but Citadel wouldn't be able to sell it in that heavily military-based area.

> Good: WLXM 102.3 flipping from AC to News/talk.
FM talkers are a trend that will continue. I'm surprised no one tried it earlier in that market.

> Good: WTIC 1080 Streaming online.
Great, now I can hear Husky talk & the Dream Doctor anywhere in the world. Goody.

> Good: WTIC adding The Dream Doctor Show.
The show does nothing for me and I'm in the demos they're looking for. I'm sure they could find something more interesting for that slot.

> Bad: WNEZ 1480 flipping from Gospel to Spanish.
Why? Did 1480 have that many listeners who cared? Right now Spanish formats are an easier sell in that area, if you can believe it.

> Bad: WNLC 98.7 flipping from Spanish to Classic Hits.
You mean Standards to Classic Hits. Their ratings had been dropping for awhile now and I'm sure the billing was going right along with it. I think it's a good idea, since WMOS is more Classic Rock now. However, if it cannibalizes sister WKNL, Hall will just change the format again, and whatever they would change it to would still do better than standards.

> Bad: Overkill of Husky Talk on WTIC 1080.
Hey, the Huskies in CT are the equivalent of the Patriots and Red Sox in Boston and Providence. They are mass appeal. Why shouldn't the flagship station and one of the most listened to stations in the state cater to this sizable audience? Besides, what's the alternative? More birdfed satellite talk?

> The Jury is still out: WILI AM/FM being sold to Hall Commuincations.
Agreed, although Hall has historically kept their stations as local as possible, which is good news for that combo. Their Norwich stations have been stable for many years. Who knows? Maybe if WNLC's classic hits format fails Hall can simulcast I-98 on 98.7....

That's an understatement. Connecticut is BIG TIME UConn territory. Look at WTIC's continual sucsess with it. I'd be even willing to bet that WTIC doesn't have to sell it, there is probably that much of a demand for it.

Six years later, and both stations are doing just fine.

Just passed by WKND a while ago and it still sounds like gospel/R&B to me. However I wouldn't be surprised if Gois did flip it to Spanish, so their entire CT cluster would consist of three useless and worthless dogs which are lucky to get a combined 2.0 rating.
