All we should root for is that he finally retires.
Yes, I know, there are some who think that he did well with
KWOD before it was finally sold, but if you heard it early on
or ever had the chance to see how he ran it you'd never want
the guy to have a radio station ever again. It still amazes me
that he could ever have gotten Gerry Cagle to work for him, or
any other quality talent for that matter. I did freelance work
for KWOD in the early eighties and after the work was done I was
paid in trade. Like I really needed new headphones!

The guy has delusions .
Edited by calguy on 04/15/06 08:11 AM.

Pardon me for asking but, has Ed ever cashed the check from Entercom yet? Chris I bet you know! bty You are sounding very good on KGO!

Well, believe it or not, the FCC seems to believe Entercom owns KWOD. Sorry, Ed!

I've seen errors go through untouched in apps before.

One local station owner has at least two applications where he states his home city address as "Niles, PA" instead of the Youngstown suburb of "Niles, OH".

This might be a bit different...although even if Stolz did own KWOD anywhere but in his own mind, it would not affect the heart of the application, as there is no ownership problem caused by that station in this application.

KWOD was a much better sounding radio station under Ed Stoltz than it is now. Ed may have been a bit eccentric and "wacky"...but broadcasting on the 27th floor of the Rennaisance Tower was cool. Some of the best Sacramento on-air personalities worked at KWOD back then. I think radio could use a lot more eccentrics.

Eccentricities are one thing, but I lived in Sacramento through the early eighties and back then he and his station were the laughingstock of the town. He was owner, general manager and chief engineer. That wouldn't be a problem if he actually knew what he was doing. He knew just enough I suppose. They played 45's & LP's and used to spray them with alcohol to quiet the surface noise, but once you do it, you have to keep doing it, ugh! He spent more time putting the moves on secretaries than anything else... Plus he was cheap. I freelanced back then and voiced & produced a run of promos for KWOD. I was paid with a new pair of headphone instead of cash. What a joke...

I did LIVE overnights for two years at KWOD in 98 and 99. I don't think the competiters felt KWOD was a laughingstock. KWOD easily had the best radio personalities with Shaun and Jeff, Raz, Boomer and Nick Monroe. Fun radio.

He's filed against ALL the Entercom renewals. Example:NY BRH-20060201ANC WBEE-FM 71206 ENTERCOM ROCHESTER LICENSE, LLC. Renewal of License.92.5 MHZ ROCHESTER, NY Informal Objection filed 5/1/06 by Edward R. Stolz

Wow you got paid in new headphones and not an old used perfect condition pair?Ed bought some equipment from me over the years and always wanted to trade part of the cost in some of his antique equipment. Around 1995 I got tired of moving it around and threw what I had traded for into the dumpster. That's how much it was worth. On other subjects......Does anyone know if Ed Stoltz's appeal in California (not the FCC) was heard and what the responce was? If the responce was not in his favor did he take it to the State Supreme Court? If anyone can find out the facts (not guesses or speculation) please start a new post on this subject.CK

I understand your defensivness, but I never said he had bad talent working for him, although there were a few bad ones over the years just like any station has. I was commenting on how he and his operating style were viewed in the late 70's and early 80s from my experiences and my knowledge of his practices from people I knew who worked for him back then, which of course tarnished the station itself in those years. He actually brought in some fine talent in the 80's, many of whom I've known of and in some cases even worked with at other properties. I know that the station's reputation got better over the years and that's something that the on-air talent are resposible for. There are many fine people who made KWOD a great competitor in the mid to late 80's, 90's and into the 21st century, but what I said about Stolz himself still stands up. He's a cheapskate, and a tad on the slimy side. Personally if I had the kind of cash he's made from KWOD and it's sale I would've retired to Hawaii long ago...
