Stolz - The gift that keeps on giving!

Desperate are we?

“Ed Stolz says alleged “sexual predator” Les Moonves at CBS is grounds for scrutinizing the CBS Radio merger with Entercom. How so? Stolz says the case of Moonves, who was fired as CEO of CBS Corporation two-and-a-half months ago, raises questions about whether CBS should’ve been allowed to own stations. Sound far-fetched? Stolz’ real target isn’t Moonves, but Entercom, to which he agreed to sell then-KWOD Sacramento all the way back in 1996. Stolz has spent the intervening 22 years fighting that deal, which wasn’t consummated until years after it was signed. After losing repeatedly at the FCC and in the federal courts (including a recent turndown by the Supreme Court), Stolz’ new move at the Commission is a “Petition for Further Reconsideration.” He’s contesting the renewal of the Entercom licenses in Sacramento – including his former 106.5, now CHR “End” KUDL. Stolz wants those licenses designated for hearing, to see if Entercom has the character qualifications to own stations.”

Finally!!!!!

From Tom Taylor...

Entercom asks the FCC to bring “finality” to all the objections by Ed Stolz.

There’ve been a bunch of them. Just recently, a petition for reconsideration of Entercom’s license renewals in Sacramento, an application for review, and “two petitions for reconsideration of the denial of his application for review,” according to Entercom. It suggests to the agency that “The Commission make it clear that any future reconsideration petitions on this matter will be summarily dismissed.” It says that would “not only bring finality, but also preserve Commission resources.” In its latest “opposition” to Stolz’ latest filings, Entercom says Stolz “lacks standing” to challenge. That’s because “as the Commission has made clear, Entercom meets the renewal standard” for licenses such as CHR “106.5 the End” KUDL. Stolz agreed to sell Entercom that very station, back in 1996 when it was rock KWOD – and ever since then he’s doggedly filed motions to (first) try to keep the deal from closing and then to get it back. His latest line of objection is that somehow the sexual harassment allegations of former CBS leader Les Moonves having some bearing on the November 2017 merger of Entercom and CBS Radio.

Somehow I don't think putting Entercom out of business by deeming them unfit to be a licensee is what Presdent Trump had in mind when he pledged to drain the swamp.

iHeart has a CP for a translator on 107.9 to rebroadcast KSTE / Talk 650... one of the many challenged by Prometheus.

One has to wonder if he’s gonna be slapped with a “vexatious litigant” tag in regards to the FCC...if that’s even possible! He’s also been in hot water about a half-dozen times with not paying music license fees on his stations.

I do know that Ed is not the first to go on a multi-decade crusade to challenge a license with the Feds. There was a schmuck in Seattle who apparently worked for the long-time rock station out there. Got canned in the early 80’s and would challenge basically any filings the station made from then until about 6-7 years ago (I’m assuming he died or retired). Even wrote a book about his grievances with KISW.

Personally, I’d love to get a book from Ed Stoltz regarding his rationale in not paying license fees and continuously challenging station licenses. It would hopefully help him offset some of his legal fees!

Rarely have I seen anyone who is their own worst enemy more than Ed Stolz. When the 107.9 license is eventually auctioned off in Sacramento, I won't be the least bit surprised if he's not heaving another steaming pile of objections, litigation, or some other disruption into the process - regardless of who wins.

Just to be picky, the RBR snippet should more correctly say "full power FM" stations, as another story reported Stolz keeps his AM station in Palm Springs and several translators:

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/...p-after-lawsuit-from-music-copyright-holders/

Mostly this story makes me sad.

The AM station is KBET-AM 790 Las Vegas (not Palm Springs ) and it's associated K284CW(FX) Winchester, Nevada
as well as two FM translators K238AK(FX) & K251BX(FX) Palm Desert, California that Ed keeps.

His Las Vegas translator was ordered to shut down due to co channel interference complaints. And it’s only one watt.
There are no open frequencies he could move to.
