This public Service announcement hits airwaves in Vermont and NH.
Unable to eliminate the algae from waters [found in the Connecticut and White rivers], the states will instead mount a two-month-long radio advertising and public information campaign urging boaters, fishermen and others who use the affected rivers to disinfect their gear and clothing to prevent the algae from spreading.
"When you come right down to it, this really is a battle to save the rivers and streams that are so vitally important to the ecological, to the aesthetic, to the recreational and to the economic character of our two beautiful states," N.H. Environment Commissioner Thomas Burack said Friday.
The campaign, dubbed "Stop Rock Snot," focuses on Didymosphenia geminata, which was discovered two weeks ago in the upper Connecticut River and had never been seen in the Northeast before.
