Every other board topic its a feast on the poor folks at Clear Channel - hey they are trying to fix their issues in a market that Cox has an emormous footprint. They have brought in some new talented management and i wouldnt be surprised to see them do "something" positive... BUT what about those Cox "experts"....cmon WSB AM aside, the river is lame, Kiss is asleep, the beat is well not worth commenting and WSB FM hasnt changed up in years - - they dont agressively do anything. They play the "safe" route and can be beaten in this town and CCU, Radio One and Cumulus will catch them sleepin - because thats what they do real well...sleep.

Right....let's see while they were sleeping GST gave the AM audience to them, 96 Rock gave them the classic rock and LTM gave them the soft AC audience. I shutter to think what COX will do to CC when they wake up! :D CC is has and will always be asleep at the switch in Atlanta, if you think a southern rock country station like the Bull is the cure your nuts. By all measure they underperform, ratings and revenue and cash flow.

I'M SORRY BUT THE TERM "CURE YOUR NUTS" IS JUST FUNNY TO ME.

Cox!

Cox is generally considered radio's kings of template/cookier-cutter scripted to-the-word radio.

And that's how Mel Torme wrote "The Christmas Song"....
"chestnuts roasting on an open fire....."

Cox is stable and successful Look at the staffs, there is a reason they don't leave. They don't have to. They must be doing something right. I'm sure any broadcast group in town would love to have their billing. Cookie cutter and boring apparently works for them in more markets than Atlanta.

Oh they have turnover - LOTS....just not mic side....

If you don't mind having your station programmed by shadow consultants and having the company President/CEO supervist the writing of your imaging, then Cox is the way to go. I think I speak for many of us in the Programming community who would prefer to run our stations locally and with autonomy.

Personally, I try to avoid working for companies where their brand of the "Corporate Kool-Aid" is mandatory.

First, as for turnover at Cox. Yes, a lot of off-mic people leave, but usually for MUCH better jobs, not just lateral moves. It says a lot for the company when so many former Cox employees are managers at other stations.

And as for local autonomy, you're kidding, right? WSB-AM is now the only news station in town. They do stories on any subject, even if it means taking aim at one of their sponsors. How many stations have the autonomy to do that? I've worked for stations where the management has demanded leaving out the name of a business that was ripping off customers, because that business was a big advertiser. I've even worked for one station where the GM wanted us to use the name of a rival business, rather than the real culprit (needless to say, we didn't). At WSB that would not only never happen, it would never be considered.

The station has deep enough roots, and a large enough reputation to not have to bow to the pressure of advertisers. The station has tremendous freedom, and there is no interference from corporate management.

I wonder how some people on these boards get their information. Clearly they believe rumor, or else manufacture their own "facts." Which is why many are on the outside looking in.
