Stop Trying to Make ... Happen!

Nancy Travis and Robert Urich were two people who never quite succeeded at having long-running series, I thought we could list our favorite/least favorite examples of this situation.

Oh and there is Mark Feuerstein. How many shows does this guy have to tank before they stop giving them to him? I am baffled by how Mark Feuerstein has kept getting major TV work for what must be close to 25 years. It's astonishing.

I suppose I should throw in Paula Marshall, Teá Leoni, and Jenna Efman in this too. Ones that annoy me right now....Peter Krause, Connie Britton and Josh Radnor.

Seven years for Royal Pains is a good run. Whatever personal bugaboos someone has that causes them to dwell on who gets acting gigs...seriously?

Hey I just have to wonder. Royal Pains maybe bought him some time but IMO, the bar for success was set VERY low there. That CBS sitcom he had a couple years back with Linda Lavin was DREADFUL.

I don't know why I didn't think aboiut this before, but what about Tim Conway? He was great on McHale's Navy and The Carol Burnett Show, and as a guest on other shows. But anything he tried to do on his own failed.

Why is Jenna Elfman (not "Efman") on this list? She was co-star of "Dharma and Greg," which had a nice run.

Hmm, maybe she would belong in a "When lightning doesn't strike twice" category since that's all she is known for really 18 years after the show ended. The problem with a Jenna Elfman type is that she's a specific type of actress that fits into a specific type of role/sitcom (though she did do a TV movie once where she was a crazy stalker.. and most of the movie you didn't know if she was crazy or being painted as crazy until the end of the movie.. she was pretty serious and quite good.). Her more recent sitcoms Accidentally On Purpose, 1600 Penn, and Imaginary Mary all flopped big time.

Specific type of actress? Like the role she’s had for several seasons on Fear the Walking Dead?

The bar was low...had a hit but that doesn’t really count...it sounds like a weird grudge list.

If you are a aspiring actor and looking for work I would find out who their agent/rep is. I'm not going to comment on any of the names mentioned, but a good team will keep you out there and get you work.

What a bunch of curmudgeons and old crones. Last time I’ll try to make a topic I thought would interesting to read from other’s opinions or share my opinions here again.

You asked for opinions and got them. The fact that they are not ones you agree with is as much because of your beliefs as it is of the beliefs of others.

It's not necessary to call those you disagree with by degrading terms. Just say you disagree and thought that you'd find more agreement with your beliefs.

What about Ann Jillian and, more recently, Whitney Cummings. Jason Alexander flopped as the star on three different shows of Seinfeld, if I recall correctly.
