Re: HD Delay

Savage is totally correct here. The "HD Delay" isn't really usable as an obscenity delay because you can't practically "Dump to live".

By the way, I wasn't suggesting that in my post. Mine was strictly related to delay in sports broadcasts unrelated to IBOC.

I worked for a country Fm station and we did our remotes that way. The GM was afraid listeners would shout nasty words. The live breaks were recorded and then aired a few minutes later. Country listeners have no class.

Nope, just a local snafu. Over 50 major clients including big municipalities were down for weeks. It was a melluva hess which some ISP experts are still unravelling, but it's slowly straightening out.

Believe me - if HD is permanently dumpster-bound, you'll read about it here and at stopiboc.com simultaneously! And FIRST!! ??? (Sounds like a really bad small-market news promo)

Speaking of stopping IBOC, there is a great article in the 9/24 issue of Radio World entitled: "Getting Big AM Sound-Correctly", by Larry Langford.

It's a great read on techniques an engineer can use to improve the sound on his/her AM station.

But when bemoaning the problems facing AM, I got a kick out of this comment by Larry:

"Sure AM has problems, poor signal-to-noise in many areas and of course the cesspool called IBOC - don't get me started on that again - but the medium can sound decent even under present constraints."

Obviously not an engineer who has been bamboozled by the visions of Nirvana HD Radio proponents have been promising.

Mr Langford's station, WGTO 910 in Cassopolis, Michigan has very very good audio.

I can second that! And, he actually plays music ("Good Time Oldies"). I hear him very well at my summer cottage.

Actually, Larry has done a nice job of voicing his concerns about IBOC, both in the pages of Radio World and before the FCC. Check these comments: http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/ecfs/retrieve.cgi?native_or_pdf=pdf&id_document=6518013401

His station is second-adjacent to WLS, and therefore probably receives a certain amount of IBOC interference in the daytime, especially to the west.

I've never heard of him but I like him already. ;D

I have heard of him (and his station) and I like him also. ¿Doesn't he also use AM stereo on his station?
