Storm coverage in East TN, please comment!

Hi all,

Yesterday's windstorm, rain, and lightning was a really rough one in Athens. WYXI 1390 stayed on the air past normal sign off to report about storm damage, and destress the public and provide weather and news updates. Props to Mark Lefler for an outstanding job on storm coverage. I was without power for 5 hours, I am thankful for owning a Zenith Trans-Oceanic which kept me informed. WJSQ/WLAR/WYGO had several hours off the air. What was your experiences like? Love to read your commentary about the storm and what your community saw for damage, power outages, etc.

Must have been a local family-owned station that cares about the community. We had an F2 and F3 tornado in Greene County on 4-27-11 that killed 6 people and a popular AC in the Tri-Cities thought Delilah was more important than tornado warnings on each side of them.

It is a small family owned station. Owned by Mark Lefler and Bob Ketchersid. People for me who exemplify what small town broadcasters should be.

My wife and I were in Madisonville when the storm hit. I did hear Mark on WYXI 1390 and thought he did an outstanding job with that storm coverage.

Great to know they care. Rare, nowadays.

I think the frog played Hunter Hayes "Storm Warning". They had to break format because it's not on the charts any more. Who says they stopped caring, huh?

You can always listen to Bill Hagy's Rabbitt...70 mph winds but all you hear are the one liners and the infamous no talk triple play. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Hope 104.9 shoots that rabbitt!
