Storm Coverage

I don't have time to wait for the radio stations to get around to telling me what I need to know so I hit the web throughout the past few days for my updates.

TimesUnion.com wins storm coverage hands down - the other papers weren't even in the game. WGY.com did a fairly good job but their site is difficult to navigate but did allow me to keep current on what was going on using a combination of those two web sites and while still not missing my daily Rush Limbaugh dose on air... (especially good this week since he and Colin Powell are going at it tooth and nail.) WROW.com was missing in action, aside from a free headline wigget from the TU (and a broken one at that) and no reason given for me to turn on the radio station. PV's site nothing but advertisements with a news wigget from the Spotlight papers but at least offered me some content and an alternative destination for listening.

The music station sites I did not visit, TV sites were very slow, especially in getting video posted and even then they posted just packages... I didn't see any raw streams.

590 outfoxed 810 this time around ---- have the WGY crew lost their will with the threat of an impending sale looming in the New Year???? Tip'0 the Hat to TOM RIGATTI!!!!

Musta killed Custer to have live news readers there over the weekend, and to have Roney come back Friday night and then again Saturday. Roney got a comp day today it seems, he was on tape.

to MT1:

If you don't have electricity and your stuck without a cellphone charger, I HIGHLY doubt that websites and tv stations even matter at times like these.

Radio is where it's at.

810 lost it. Too busy ramming the right wing politics down our throats instead of helping us SURVIVE.

I didn't have enough cell power to look up the "local" newspaper sites and I sure as hell couldn't watch television by candlelight...

590 won this battle and hope they can keep it up.

I thought wgy did a good job. al and allie were on top of things on saturday. while wrow was airing a paid program on bowel movements and the doctor discussing seeing his four year old daughters large poop in the toilet bowl after 11am saturday morning, wgy was telling me where to get help. allie really needs to get a top billing on the morning show too. she deserves it. she does all the work while chuckie strolls in. no more boys club please.

power went out early friday morning in most places.

GY was a day late and a dollar short. Literally.

Gotta strike while the iron's hot. It was damn cold by the time saturday came around. LOL

While the critical review of 'GY is dead on the fact remains that the other media in the market dropped the ball and did not exploit that. I had 'GY on-air to listen to Rush and the 'GY & TU web sites updating me in nearly real time. WROW for example still had zero web content and when I was surfing for a news source offered me no reason to turn the radio away from 810. This was one of those times when it would have been a perfect opportunity for WROW to take advantage of the empty shell of 810 but blew it entirely by not telling anybody outside of their tiny 2-share (mostly 65+) that there was content on air. It is also hard for me to believe that Tom and what ever skelton $8 an hour staff put on a credible product. My guess is that they leaned hard on Channel 9, which I can hear on the radio anyway without the WROW filter.

Wow, I can't believe how hard GY is getting slammed. Allie was on the air early Friday AM covering the story from the very beginning - and they still aren't done giving up-dates and providing timelines for restoration. I didn't listen to WROW, but I didn't need to - WGY was right on top of it.
