Storm damaged facilities

WGGG 95.1 "Goober 95.1"Bowling Green KY's studio facilities were destroyed in the tornado, and the STL tower toppled on December 10-11, 2021.

WSM went off for a while last night. Everything about this tornado outbreak is sad, devastating, and (at times) hard to watch.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by the tornados.

I notice that WHB is booming in here tonight in Michigan. Assume they're running on day power/pattern.

I live not super far from this part of Kentucky. No direct damage to my town. A former co-worker who moved to Bowling Green, KY had serious roof damage but is otherwise OK. A friend of a friend needed stitches due to cuts from glass damage.

There was no tornado in metro Nashville, although there were straight-line winds that caused power disruptions in Brentwood according to the National Weather Service that could have knocked WSM off briefly while they got the genny going.

WHB being on day pattern is also likely unrelated, all the damage in Missouri was east of a line from Springfield to Jefferson City.

I have confirmed 1580 WPKY/Princeton KY is intact and on air, although there is significant damage in Princeton.
I have not been able to confirm WCBL and WCCK, whose studio is near the path of the major Kentucky tornado on the outskirts of Benton, KY. Their web stream is offline, but I live too far away to consistently receive either one.

We're blessed that the storm didn't find Madisonville, population 25,000. It missed by just a couple miles. The storm picked up cars from a freight train on the old Louisville & Nashville just south of Madisonville. It didn't just blow over cars, it carried a few railroad cars 50-100 yds, including one into a home adjacent to the railroad. A drone photo from yesterday, as CSX was trying to put the cars back on the track:

I assume WLLE-102.1, WNGO-1320 and WYMC-1430 are a total loss...they are all based in Mayfield.
Yes, I saw that drone footage of the CSX train car that slammed into a house. I wish I knew how much an empty train *car* weighs...I assume several dozen tons. Unbelievable!
In addition, there was a report that semi-trucks were tossed and thrown in the air on I-55 in MO. I don't know how a truck driver could have survived that...I hope they found some type of shelter outside the sleeper.

I received word from a former employee that WYMC was reported on the air. Mayfield is about 10,500 in the city limits and covers over 7 square miles. The entire town would not have been hit by the tornado however with a 3.5 mile wide debris ball reported, it is a good bet as the tornado went through downtown, debris may have been falling throughout town. It appears WYMC is about 3 miles north of the center of town, likely outside the main strike and debris area. Surely they'd be running on a generator

WYMC is probably fine. The tornado went through town, and the station is several miles out of town on US45.
WLLE and WNGO share a studio close to Paducah, so they're probably fine. Transmit facility is on the edge of town too.

Willie 102 is off the air and "Working to get back on soon" according to a facebook post
