Storm on the radio

After the Arena Football League cancelled the 2009 season, many of the teams are back for 2010 in a new reformatted league, including the Tampa Bay Storm. The season starts in early April.

The Storm used to have their games on 620 with Jack Harris and Jason Dixon on the call. But apparently since they now carry the Rays, they probably won't be able to carry the Storm. Any idea which station might pick up their games?

Yeah, being the #1 male station in the market is a bad position to be in. Solid point.

Check your facts. I wouldn't consider 98Rock the #1 male station in the market. Of course it depends on the demo and daypart.

Look, I have friends in the 98ROCK camp, so I guess that's why I'm speaking up on their behalf.

I also have access to PPM data and they are #1 Men 25-54 and #2 M 18-34 behind WLLD, which I think is a hip hop station. The Bone is tied for 4th. Granted the morning show is huge, but the rest of the station isn't strong at all. So for the sake of discussion topic, now that you know the data...I don't think they need an formerly defunct arena football team on their signal to be successful. They've got that figured out.

Care to attach a daypart to that data? For all we know, you could be talking about Tuesdays and Fridays between 11AM and 12:45PM.

And, the Bone is #1 across all male demos for almost 10 hours a day (I think you're forgetting Cowhead). Mind you, those 2 dayparts that they're #1 in attract the most important and sacred ad dollars.

We could argue for days about PPM and shitty in-tab numbers, but that conversation is tired and annoying.

Sure thing.

XTB- M 25-54

AM - 3rd
Middays 1st
PM - 1st
Nights 2nd
Weekends- 1st

HPT- M 25-54

Am - 1st by a bunch
Middays 6th
PM - Tied for 3rd
Nights 10th
Weekends- Tied for 15th

Surprisingly XTB is in first P 25-54 full week, which is pretty nuts for that format.

I don't think you are in the know WeekendsAdam, sorry man. Its cool that you like that station, I've heard they are good. But other then mornings they aren't winning.

Maybe HPT should pick up the play by play for the storm, it could actually help them there. Classic Rock stations never do well at night.

I have a reeeally hard time believing Jesse Kage is number 1 in the afternoons. I'd be curious to see a trend that backs that up.

And thanks for patronizing me by telling me that "it's cool that I like that station." It has nothing to do with liking the station or not...but since I am employed in this market, I like to weigh in. Since going into PPM, each book has been significantly different than the last (see my previous post about terrible in-tab numbers...one station in the market literally had 35 PPM meters assigned to its demo...if 20 of those guys happen to listen to country, well crap). If I had a trend in front of me, I could probably come back at you with a completely different set of numbers.

Please read the following article regarding Arbitron's continued lack of caring:

If you're right, maybe XTB can lose the stigma of being the lowest billing station in the market (for several years now).

Dammit...I said I wasn't going to talk about this anymore.

An HD-x might be a thought, since both are on life support anyway. No listeners inside the SPTForum for radio listening without a booster.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

Weekends: I did not mean to patronize you, trust me on that. I've got no skin in the game, but I just knew that WXTB was doing pretty well. Something they have been doing for quite some time other then their horrible AM numbers, which has been in the dumpster since they lost their big AM show. Clearly that made a huge difference for the station as a whole.

I also agree that PPM is garbage and the same size is brutal. But that's the measuring stick now and everyone is being looked at the same way. So technically it is unfair to the whole market, meaning everyone has the same chance to win or lose.
