Storm Related FM Radio Outages

90.5 WHQB in Cross Hill has returned to the air.

I wonder why WLTS has not filed an STA? Unless they’re running from some kind of very weak backup that can’t even be heard in Greenville, I find it odd iHeart filed one for the brief period WROO 104.9 was off the air but nothing from EMF for WLTS 103.3 a week+ later. Is the 94.1 translator on that tower on the air? Wondering if the tower is damaged.

I thought I heard 103.9 WSHP yesterday, very faintly from Spartanburg, during Top-of-Hour Station ID. Surprised an STA was authorized with only 60 watts, even from Paris Mountain, it would be lucky to reach beyond the city of Greenville.

103.3 WLTS is on the air.

This is funny. Since 104.9 came on after briefly being off the air, the RDS has shown “The Road” and non-existent call letters. It’s worth noting “The Road” flipped almost a decade ago!

Both WMIT and WKSF transmitter sites get the worst weather of any radio transmitter sites in the area during the winter time. Both were built to withstand the high winds and severe winter weather conditions.

I don't listen much to local radio anymore, but especially AM. I did see that, because of the storm, this Greenville area station had its license cancelled.
  • Redemption Strategies Broadcasting’s 1070 WCSZ Sans Souci SC (Hurricane Helene)
They were also on 94.9, W235BM, a translator licensed to Mauldin. Anyone know if that's still broadcasting?

I see that they filed for silent status on 10/7, but don't see a license cancellation. Silent keeps the license active as long as they sign back on within a year. The translators (94.9 Paris Mt. and 92.1 Hendersonville) also filed for silent, so they should be off.

Hasn’t 1070 been running from STA to STA forever? I don’t think they’ve run full power on 1070 for years.

94.9 has a good signal, one of the better upstate translators.

San Souci on 1070 was really getting out when it stayed on day facilities at night, especially with WFNI Indianapolis all but gone

According to the STA for W235BM 94.9, WCSZ’s studio and transmitter site sustained flood damage from the Reedy. Looking at 1070’s filing history (STA extension after STA extension for years), 1070 has had years of issues - damaged tower, using the nighttime transmitter since the daytime is broken, studio robbed/vandalized, etc etc.

1070 has been cursed since its studio burned down decades ago.

94.9 may be good in Greenville, but I had trouble hearing them not far away in Greer, as Kiss 95.1 really carries pretty much beyond 94.9's own site! About the same reach as 96.3 or even 102.1/102.9 from Paris Mountain. Looks good on paper/Radio Locator but never seems to perform any better beyond that.

The only Paris Mountain (transmitter) Im surprised does so well is for X98.5. Heard it all the way to Blacksburg SC recently with little trouble, well outside their intended area. Even most of Spartanburg with 98.3 you can still hear 98.5 ok. And for that I think 98.3 should just simulcast X for Spartanburg, (sale?) since Fox Sports is already on Paris Mountain (somehow still) on 104.9, making 98.3 more than redundant, In programming and coverage area; 104.9 (and 98.3) would be better with a Format like that on 98.5, but not a repeat of the Buzzard rock as has been tried before...

104.9 should have stayed Real Rock instead of flipping to Fox Sports. Went well with sports and if The Lake had been tilted more towards pop like it’s Charlotte counterpart, they could use it to try to knock WROQ out of the top 3 or 4 and have WMYI, WSSL, and WESC in the top 5 almost consistently. JMO.

IHeart makes pop/older leaning variety hits (Lake), classic rock, and older leaning alternative all work in the same cluster in Charlotte.

WCSZ seems to have returned to the air this week, as I’m getting La Jefa on 94.9 and a very faint signal on 1070. 2 tin cans and a string with the AM…

RDS is still off on 89.3. 93.3. 93.7, and 101.1 aren’t displaying anything other than the station name.
