Strange goings ons in Cincy

Radio One is certainly breaking out of the cookie cutter in Cincy.

First they returned WDBZ-AM back to its talk roots away from Radio One syndicated Gospel programming

Now they have blown up Urban AC Mojo 100.3 and returned it to its jammin oldies roots (when it was 94.9).

I have no problem with programming to local tastes/the local radio market, but it is kind of sad that Cincy doesn't have an urban AC again. The door is open for the Wiz to go back to its historically broad, dayparted, serve many ages, Urban format and away from the strict hip hop.

Well, it appears they have Joyner on WDBZ now but the rest of the day is Talk.

I read that Radio One has no immediate plans to add jocks to WMOJ. Are they trying to save money?....

I also read that a majority of the jammin oldies are 80's and 90's.

One more comment, had a chance to listen today. In terms of music and imaging, this station sounds like it could have been one of the stations that was part of the jammin oldies fad in the late 90s, a true throwback!

Move is probably a response to PPM, will be interesting to see if the strategy is pursued in any other Radio One markets.

Haven't they had the most trouble with 100.3 in Philadelphia? Jammin Oldies didn't do as well in Philadelphia as it did in Cincinnati the first time around.
