Stream Licensing Question

Hey everybody I am considering starting a new net radio project. I signed my old net station down due to the SWcast mess, but came across Stream Licensing which from the looks of it does pretty much what SWcast did... Does anybody or has anybody used these guys before and how reliable are they... Kinda curious so if I do relaunch atleast I know I am covered... CC1
 
I was wondering the same thing. I saw their ad the other day, but was hesitant because of the SWCast deal. Any info would be appreciated.
 
Who are the new cats you're referring to? That information would be helpful to have.....

Marvin at StreamLicensing.com is a friend of mine, and he is trying to fill the void that SWCast left when they went awry.

The service is new to licensing stations on the net. Knowing the integrity of the man behind the company, I wouldn't hesitate going with Streamlicensing.com. Marvin needs to get this project going as fast as possible, and knowing his integrity, licensing with him would be helpful to his new company and to any station in the long run. He is as honest as any person could be, and I would highly recommend his services.
 
Just a guess, but it looks like StreamLicensing has an SX Small Webcaster License plus the minimum ASCAP/BMI/SESAC licenses for his own station. He's probably well below the maximums so he will sell the excess ATH/Revenue space to others. Actually, not a bad idea. The fees could be much less that of Live365 or LoudCity/Caster.
 
First off http://streamlicensing.com/ is %100 legit and legal. Plus I also know Marvin, he is a close friend =-) I also have licensing with him, and even the same streaming provider http://www.icastcenter.com . I was also with Loudcity, but there are some differences that will make his service stand out above the crowd. For example: with StreamLicensing.com you do not have to worry about a separate SESAC license, it is already included. You can even have commercials in stream =-) With Loudcity you have to get the SESAC license yourself to do this. Another thing, already being developed, is the mobile device app. I have seen the app in it's early stages, Sweet!! Marvin will stand out from the rest. He understands the needs of internet only stations because he himself runs a southern gospel station ( http://www.allsoutherngospel.net/ ) . Loudcity is a good company, just limited in what you can do on there. By the way Marvin also owns a terrestrial AM/FM station in Bridgeport, Alabama ( http://wgnq.net/ ).
 
Since the subject has come up: Yes, we do offer one of the few alternatives available today for licensing other than going direct. And whether you go with our service or with LoudCity's you will save a ton of money if you are a small to mid-sized broadcaster. I founded StreamLicensing.Com shortly after SWCAST went down and at the point that LoudCity filled up. Getting the legal work done and the software developed took much longer than I planned but we are here and do offer a much-needed solution. Our agreements with the the licensing entities do allow in-stream commercials and we are doubtless paying a little more to obtain non-restricted agreements but we feel this does offer one benefit to our Affiliates. And as someone mentioned, we do have an app under development for our Affiliates. Oh and you can see documentation of our agreements with the license people under Legal on our website.

Wow. I read the TOS for Streamcasting.com and there's just too many hangups for me to use such a service.
I don't see any technical data about what levels of quality is available.

I run plenty of old commercials which I have no clearance for and do not care to deal with giant corporations.
I also have a few songs in the playlist with some bad words, they're not common, but there are a few.
How can I not play the live recordings of made when bands gave me a verbal OK to record and do
what I want with the recording?

Nothing can make me believe that when I play music by some obscure artist from the 1920s that anyone is gong to collect money. I wouldn't even expect them to be able to compensate some bands from the 80s.

Nor do I see any method in place for making sure that I am paid for recordngs I have created when they air.

I suppose there is no way to do what I want besides pt 15 radio.

Coincidentally, it was right after I e-mailed them that they opened up again. LoudCity seems to be the only place that I could find that would let me stream from my own server, because I have tons of spare bandwidth.
 
Yes, the TOS is long and tedious. My attorney said I needed to post it so I have :-\

The TOS summarizes the long, hairy copyright rules under which we are supposed to operate. They apply to all of us, we just rarely try to read through and apply the DMCA and other copyright rules. When you read our TOS you will notice that I have the main stuff you need to know in the easy English introduction and that part is mostly info you already know if you've been in this business. Newbies and those who have never affiliated with a licensing company don't know the basics and need the info, at least the easy English intro.

As far as quality goes, we do not provide the stream. We are not competing with stream hosts. We only license. The quality of our service is excellent but it has nothing to do with how your station sounds or if your stream is solid. We simply pull the music and listener stats and report them and pay the appropriate fees.

If they weren't legit I wouldn't have Alternative Revolt Magazine's stream through them. :)
 
Totally legit. Marvin has bent over backwards to get me rolling. If you choose
to operate illegally, heads up BMI has stream capture software that works like
BDS tracking. The cost to misuse a copyrighted composition is $10,000 per song.
These guys will make your live miserable if you get caught. If everyone who
operated illegally "got legal" you might actually see our cost to do this go down
a bit.
