Streaming Apps & on-air contests

Should radio companies / stations disclose that you have less chance to win a live, call-in contest? With iHeart delay around 30 seconds you have a slim chance of being caller #10. By the time you hear the prompt to call, they’re probably already recording caller 10. I find this ironic when they push us to stream on the app.

Not sure about everybody, but iHeart at least used to have a rule that said you could only be eligible to win a contest if an iHeart station was within either 100 or 150 miles of your residence. You also had to be able to pick up your prize in-person. You didn’t necessarily have to go to the station you called into, but you had to be able to get to an iHeart location. If it was a national contest, any and all of iHeart’s stations could use your name, image, and likeness in their promotions.

I have occasionally heard of people winning contests when listening to distant stations via streaming. It’s not common, but it has happened.
