Streaming Audio Questions

I noticed a thread regarding WHAM streaming audio.

Will music radio stations resume streaming audio in 2006? As I recall, many stations streamed their audio until the copyright tribunal ruled that radio stations that streamed their audio had to pay compensation to the music publishers and rights holders.

Over the holidays one of my nephews put me on to a website called Pandora, www.pandora.com. It's a very interesting website because it's free and offers streaming audio based on specific music interests.

I'm amazed at the variety of music that's offered and how much time I've spent listening to it in the last few days. Listening while I make this entry, in fact. It's quite addictive and seems to me to be a direct threat to radio listening in offices and at work.

Considering the declining audience for terrestrial radio, dropping internet streaming would just give people another reason to purchase satellite radio.

For the past several months I’ve been streaming CFMX from Toronto. Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, that station has not been offering audio streaming for the last few weeks. Therefore I am forced to stream my local NPR classical music station. Trust me it’s not the same.

As for WHAM, I have no idea on God’s green Earth why music, sometimes played backwards, is inserted into their noon newscasts and Paul Harvey. If it’s to block commercial content, at least make sure the music fillers are playing correctly. Not like something out of a 1969’s Beatles album.

Considering the fact that radio station playing music already pay ASCAP and other fees it is like double-taxation for these same stations to have to shell out more money in order to audio stream over the internet.

Add another nail to terrestrial radio’s coffin under the title of greed.

I checked this Pandora site out. Man, a computer with "good ears"! I punched in Bobby Bland and let it go. I loved it. Everyone should check it out at least once and be sure to have your "desert island" picks in mind when you get there. It will lead to a few more for you to add to your list.

CFMX's Winamp stream is still functional. The RealAudio and Windows media stream comes from some 3rd party that seems to have "issues".
