STREAMING CHOICES...

I may not have the correct terms here..but I am just about to put my show on a server? that will be compliant with playback fees, sound exchange..whatever the proper term is..I've read several previous posts concerning different sites..pretty sure i do not want live 365, or Shoutcast...so who has the best plan dollar wise for say 25 to 50 listeners as a start,,and which is the easiest to set up and get going? I use Ots audio bedroom pro as a player, and also have a hi def cam that I use. Currently I have been doing this over on Ustream...but I think I need to be doing this perhaps a bit more...shall we say...legal. I still do not see how I am doing anything wrong since I am not making one penny off the show...but that's for another discussion at another time...OR...can I sign up with someone and still use the Ustream site?? I have approx 20 to 25 listeners at any given time on Friday and Saturday nights...and they all are used to the Ustream site I am using. Thanks for any advice...Chuck Lundi

may i ask how you got so many listeners, especially without being 24/7 I totally beleive you and all. But ive never had any luck with getting large numbers of listeners at a time,, its always just one or two,, sometimes if im real lucky i can get up to 4.. Whats the secret.. I especially dont understand the stations on Ustream and shoutcast that have like 100, or 1000 listeners. viewers.. The thing I liked about ustream was the interactivity and you could easily play requests, the thing I didnt like was the webcam,, I like audio only.. Im here to be listened to and not looked at.. perhaps you are a young male that has mostly female viewers.

Well I know in my case the Social Media plays a huge part in how my listener numbers move... When we are active on Twitter & Facebook people tend to stop in and see what is going on, we also have used Blip.fm as a method of getting the brand in front of people...

I have also found that people like a local content and while you will get listeners from all over the globe its the local listeners you connect with that will come back

There are only so many broadcast stations in a market. Stations will get listeners by default. Not so on the Internet. There are so many shows and podcasts that you have to go out and get the listeners and subscribers. You have to make the availability of your show known everywhere, like newsgroups, message boards, Twitter, and Facebook. If you're not pretty savvy about getting the word out, you're probably not going to build a following. There are companies that do nothing but build brand awareness for advertisers with social marketing (taking potential radio revenues). Many Hollywood stars have companies that use stars' Twitter accounts to make people think the star is "connected" with the fan base.

All I am saying is that to build an audience on the Internet, you have to go get it. As Dave Ramsey says, you have to kill it and drag it home. It's not going to come to you unless you are able to reach a Tipping Point. We're facing that challenge now. A friend has a computer show on a local station. He's probably getting ready to get bumped, so he's taking the show to the Internet. He has already been simulcasting for a while, and he has built a small following. The benefit he has from the Internet presence is that his potential market is now the English speaking world, not just the local area. The detriment is that it's very hard to build a large Internet following. There are just too many sources of information.

well thanks for the replies...i don't consider 20 t0 25 listeners a lot, since i was a top 40 rock jock back in the day and have pulled a 10 share a few times..but that was in the 70's. My listeners are for the most part friends of mine off Facebook..but also friends that have known me and knew i used to be a DJ. The biggest reason for my following is the music 63 through 93..and I don't play the same 300 songs over and over..Radio stations wouuld be stunned that listeners over 50 know a thousand times more about music than they think . Last night for instance Sam and Dave,KD Lang,Jethro Tull,CCR,and Pablo Cruise in the same quarter hour...as for Ustream, you don't have to use the cam..you can just click audio broadcast only.. but not only do the listenmers WANT to see what's going on..they insisted I upgrade the cam to a much better one..lol...and finally..no I'm not a hot young dude...Im a cool old dude, damn near 60, ..and do have a LOT of women listeners...lol
