streaming costs/royalities

Trying to get a handle on costs. This is what I would like to find out.

I would like to stream my station with a pop-up window for streaming, an Iphone app, and would have around 100 listeners for starters.

Are there anyone out there with an internet radio station with an Iphone app and pop-up window now who I can talk to about costs and being legal for streaming?

I can tell you this,
It will be expensive.
SWcast had been a good one, until we found out they don't pay.

as far as I know loudcity, loudcaster, and live 365 do not support what you are asking for.

Streaming itself is relatively cheap, its the royalties that get you.

I'd say a station with 100 listeners is probably at minimum $500 for just soundexchange

I can't speak of the type of players/apps but Loudcity (if they are accepting more clients) do full coverage based on listeners. I have about 30-40 listeners usually and pay just under $40 for full coverage from them. This is only licensing and royalties, not streaming. I have a free 25 listener stream from cloudbroadcaster.com. There are ways to keep licensing fees low. SWCAST did the same coverage (they claimed) but was about $10 cheaper per month than loudcity. I've not really looked at loudcaster but it's more of a full-meal deal with streaming and such as part of the deal. I think they run a 64 or 32 kbps AAC+ stream. Don't quote me on that, however.

Hope this helps somewhat. It's not as dark as LibertyNT has put it.

Good luck!

well when you go through LoudCity is is certainly much cheaper.
Try to find a host that offers streaming as well as a royalty program.

Sometimes Soundexchange, BMI, ASCAP, ect will work with you on getting lower prices.
But that is slightly more difficult.

Here's the Radio World article on my station:

Big D Country is licensed as a "PRO" station by Live365, which covers the streaming fees and royalties. The basic cost is $107 per month.

There are some folks listening via Android, and a Live365 iPhone app was recently released. I can't afford a cell phone that has all of the fancy bells and whistles, so I don't know how well they work.

I am allowed to put a player on the website but haven't had time to figure out how to do it.

The "PRO" designation allows me to sell my own advertising without the restrictions of "no audio ads," which the hobby/personal streams have.
