You should use shoutcast, but for a host - you should use setnine.com -- they take credit cards with OR without paypal. I don't have a paypal account, so this is a convenience. I've RARELY had downtime with them, and have earned a living strictly on the net for over a year using them.

I used Liquid Compass (liquidcompass.net) w/ positive results to push about 1500 to 1700 simultaneous streams.

Most folks are replying with smaller solutions.

What size market is your station?

i know i'm raising the dead with this post... but it's worth it to mention...

http://www.LimeLightNetworks.com/

they are #1 when it comes to hosting streaming and other distributed medium, such as on-demand video. the client list simply has far too many HUGE clients for me to try listing, just check out the site. radioio has been with them since the beginning and we've always been very happy with the 24/hour support. their NOC centers have excellent monitoring, and their peering agreements are the best in the industry - nothing remotely close to crap bandwidth like Cogent.

and of course i also wanted to mention that if you're buying from a provider that's selling you max spaces that you use on a server, 95th percentile or whatever you want to call it... then you're getting ripped off. period. you should only pay for the bandwidth you use, no matter how small you are. despite how great quality & service LimeLight offers, you might be able to save money by hosting with them, even for small hobbycasters. it's worth looking in to. :)

This sounds interesting... www.BandwidthDaddy.com - the give you streams- then throw in station IDs by Digital Audio Tracks, a free utility stream and 24/7 weather forecasts.

We use streamgeeks.com and shoutatme.com for our streaming and are very happy with Jim Barcus and his staff.

http://www.servcast.com/

and he offers all flavours. (we use icecast)

everyone else is too bloody expensive. a 75 user server cost about $340/year (and, there are no bandwidth restrictions or caps)

if you want to listen to it, see my signature and go to the RFD2 address. .

It is good to know that LimeLight Networks hasn't abandoned the little guy. If memory serves me correctly, weren't they the first streaming distributor for CBS radio when they first started streaming?

As I recall, once CBS radio realized that streaming would eventually be a gold mine, for some reason they abandoned them for StreamTheWorld. Go figure!
