streaming radio choices in philly

so, many philly stations are now streaming. then again, so are many other stations around the country.

do you miss listening to WDRE, y-100, or WIFI-92 rock of the 80's ? now all you have to do is click on over to www.kroq.com and turn on their live stream. this could be considered the finest alternative station in the world, and now you can listen to it while anywhere in the world.

stations streaming their local signal is a double edged sword. on one hand, local listeners can now access that station while they are online. on the other hand, that same local listener will eventually realize that there are many more choices in other cities. thus, i will probably never listen to BEN or WMMR while at the office. this is because i will likely be listening to KROQ in LA, JACK FM in NYC, or US99 in Chicago, via the internet. ( much better choices )

oh, and one more thing.......just wait til the local sales managers realize that they are paying for extra bandwidth in order to reach listeners outside the market! this is something they will likely have problems selling to local advertisers. national advertisers aren't quite on board with audio streaming yet.

If you miss listening to Y100, then the obvious choice for internet listening is Y100Rocks.com. Why listen to a station with commercials from L.A. online when you can listen to a live, local Philly station with no commercials?

>I personally don't miss Y100. I felt like for a while there WPLY started to play bands that I would not hear on other stations. I began to loathe the sound of The strokes, the vines, unwritten law, the white stripes and alot of the other bands most likely made famous by College kids. Yep, the noisy blast that came out of y100 shortly before it fell is not missed by me, and I find it laughable that now a shadow of the station is still kept alive by live360, or yahoo or whomever is donating the web stream so they can promote their indie noise and have a few kids pretend they're "on the air". All of the real jocks with any talent eventually got real PAYING gigs. perhaps their may still be 1 or 2 nobody part-timers left over from the actual last days, but really, it's not even a reality anymore, just go away Y100rocks.com, Radio one has left you in the dust as a forgotten memory of some really terrible music. Alt rock was only ever a fad anywho, eventually all the sweater wearing dope heads grew up and went off to find rehab. I'll stick to a legit station that found a way to stream their signal online where I can identify the artists and find tons of other artists that don't suck.
