Streaming Reception Problems - Anyone else?

I have been experiencing frequent reception break-ups when streaming several dance stations in North America. But this does not occur - or very rarely - with most of the European stations attempted. All are being accessed through ShoutCast using WinAmp at 24 bit rate since we are on a dial-up (baudrate ranging from 38 to 48kbps) in rural Ontario Canada. The cutouts/breakups range from less than a second to 3 and 4 seconds and most times have no correlation to any up or down loading on our part. Has anyone else experienced this? Any explanations? Any suggestions (other than getting DSL, which isn't available here)?

Can't get DSL? No cable internet?

Eh. "Suck it up" is cruel...but its all I can say. Thats a dialup issue. Not a reliable connection.

You might be able to find someone offering wireless net & voip access to the phone system, possably using something like Motorola Canope system... but sometimes the providers can be very hard to find. There was one located less than 30 minutes away from my house (which also didnt have dsl or cable available) and it took me 2.5 years to find out they existed only because I know someone working in the wireless radio/com & tower scene around here.

They dont even have a website. ironic no?

So mabey ask around the local radio communications geeks, heck even the local sherif's office might know. Also a good place to ask is local newspapers, they usually tend to need that kind of stuff.

Good luck!
