Streaming set-up

My generation don't buy CD's/DVD's. We download our music in MP3. I'm afraid that our ears are becoming less sensitive to these artifacts. If I know my audience isn't going for the quality but for the content do I care to put so much effort in trying to mask these artifacts? As a engineering point of view yes but...... what does the rest think?

Good point - although I might think that a stream that is truly better sounding will activate the "psycho-acoustic" aspect of listening behavior; quality sound digs deep into the brain recesses and causes the listener to prefer it over exactly the same content with a poor audio quality. This is a subconscious process - only audiophiles would realize that they are making the choice. I gotta believe that this response is just as strong for the "new" generation is it is for older ones.

Everyone--

Thanks for your replies

gunterm -- I've downloaded MBL4 and it has GREATLY improved my level control. Which specific preset are you using?

Thanks!

Brad,

I lost my bookmarks but there are at least one web site that have boatloads of presets for the MBL4, including numerous variations of Optimod emulation. I hope someone else has it so I can restore it to my updated bookmarks.

ref_am_speech_broadcast is the one I like, if you are netcasting you'll want to turn off those lowpass/highpass filters off.

I'd love to see that website, I never had much luck making my own presets, only slightly modifying ones others made.
