Guys -
Passing along this tip for those owning Smartphones and needing to stream digital music from sites like 'The.wav' (and others) which depend on Windows compatible media players.
I recently purchased a new Droid HTC Eris (a 3G smartphone from Verzion). This phone is Verizon's IPhone lookalike. I really LOVE this phone! Except after purchasing, I realized there is no WMA player - nor ANY media player - except for the "built-in" Android Video player - available for this phone.
I could not get any internet music stream from -any- service to function on this phone -- most notibly The.wav -- which has become essential to my life. Not to be deterred, I looked around for a solution - and found it - in this terrific free service - moodio.fm.
Here's how it works -
Moodio FM does not provide any content. All they do is simply convert internet radio streams to formats that are suitable for most mobile phones. On your desktop computer, go to www.moodio.fm. Set up a free account. Search for a station you want to listen to. A lot of popular genres and stations are already listed on the service. Just choose one. When I first did this, The.wav wasn't listed there. So I added The.wav as a new "station" for others to select.
Once you select a station, it's saved as a favorite under your desktop www.moodio.fm account name and appears in the "My Stations" list of your account. If you can't find a specific station, and you have the URL for that station's stream, you can just click "add a new station" from the main Moodio page to enter the stream's url. Which I did for the.Wav. Once you have all your favorite stations saved to My Stations, then use your mobile phone and go to the Moodio FM MOBILE site --- on your mobile phone ---> http://m.moodio.fm
Log in with the info from the moodio.fm account you just created on your desktop and you'll see your "My Stations" list appearing on your mobile phone. You can't add new favorites to "My Stations" from the mobile phone. Make sure to do this on your desktop.
Using your phone, click the link for one of your stations and you should be playing the station in a few moments. For me the stream comes over the native Android Video player, which is odd, but hey it works -- and it sounds terrific! I'm estatic !
This phone has both 'wifi' and '3G' capabilities. When I run MOBILE moodio.fm while using my home's wifi connection, the connection to the music service will TIMEOUT after about 5 minutes. This forces me to constantly restart the media player to resume listening. Then I discovered when I turn off 'wifi' and run moodio using standard '3G', the TIMEOUT problem doesn't occur. I'm just passing along this trick, because all the restarting was driving me crazy until I discovered it was my wifi network causing it.
