Streaming to me and only me

I'm going to be living away from home for a few months. My favorite local station does not stream. Is there an easy way I can plug a radio into a pc and stream to myself so I can listen to this station while I'm away? I mean, if I had to, I guess I could set up a voip phone call and listen that way but there must be a better way. It's a talk station so I'm not worried about music quality.

Its quite easy to do..all you need to do is download the free Windows Media Encoder Series 9. Once you have the encoder setup you broadcast your local radio broadcast 24/7 to the output of your pc then select encode on the Windows Media Encoder. When you setup the encoder you will note the Internet address for your broadcast, this is where you will tne when your away from home. hope this helps. If anyone else can expalin this better please do.
The URL for the Windows Media Encoder is http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx
Please note in order to run the Windows Media Encoder you need to be using Windows XP Professional.

I have used Windows Media Encoder to do this...it works great.

Icecast would be interesting as well, though it looks like the learning curve would be a little steep... especially if you're not steeped in Linux and server settings. WME is wizard-based and probably a lot easier to grasp.

If you do this, don't forget to make sure a port is opened for it on your router...most routers have easy port forwarding to handle this.

You should also go to dyndns.org and grab a free Dynamic DNS account, so you can access your network with a domain name, and keep accessing it if your ISP changes your IP address.

This is correct...I forgot yes you should get a DNS account so if your IP address changes you can still access via the Interent. I believe you need to update the DNS account every 60 days or so but they send you a e-mail reminder to do this.

The dyndns.org folks (and similar sites, I presume) have a Windows utility that will do all the changing for you.

I'm not sure where you get your information from but you DO NOT need Windows XP Professional. You can run it on any version of Windows XP as well as Windows ME and (I believe) BOTH editions of Windows 98.

Just wanted to clarify that. :)

Cheers :)
