Street Corner Sunday

I was wondering what other regular listeners to WOGL's "Street Corner Sunday" think of the show in the last few weeks since they started apparently taping the show instead of doing it live.
I didn't notice right away until noticed there were no more phone calls, no talk of the weather, sports events, etc. When Holiday was on the night of an Eagles game I knew it was taped - he always took off those Sundays. The music is the same, but the show sounds canned & has lost it's energy with the conversations that went with the producer & the requests & Holidays comments. I guess with Holiday working 6 hours weekdays this was a move they decided to make. Does anyone know if the show is taped in real time or taped all at once and pieced together as voicetracking?

I guess the people in New York would say they'd be happy to have the "Doo Wop Shop" back even voicetracked, or even any kind of oldies station, so guess we can't complain too much about this change.

It doesn't matter to me, as long as we still have it. We had to fight to get it back in 2001, and it's here to stay, slight change or no. Still a good listen and Harvey is one of the greats.

The show is voice tracked. The only one at the station after Hy leaves at 9 is a board op. Incidently, the show's music is pre programed and practically dictated by Tommy "TOM TOM TERRIFIC" McCarthy, within the confines of the corporate music policy. That's why it sounds so good. Voice tracks and all.

Tommy knows Philly, and knows how to do oldies. I do miss it when he would fill in for Holiday - some of the best shows were when he brought his "treasure chest of oldies" for the "grooveyard"

Ahhh....good times....<P ID="signature">______________

I got to meet Tommy one Saturday afternoon back in the late 70's-early 80's when he stopped at a resturant I was at in Newark DE. He was commuting between the Baltimore and Philly stations he worked for. I think he was working WSNI AM/FM at the time, but I forget the Baltimore station (WQXR?). Nice guy to talk with and yes, he does know Philly music. Its a shame he does not get to pick the variety of music he would like to air.
