Part of me thinks - what a stupid idea (as blowtorch 107.5 WGCI struggles to crack a 1.5 share).

Another part of me thinks - wouldn't it be cool if these guys actually made some noise and drove WGCI down to new all-time record low ratings?

The market coverage is so darn limited - granted, south side should be able to pick up a good signal - that I'm hard pressed to believe this new market entry will be able to attract even 100,000 weekly listeners.

Of course - less than 24 hours after I wrote the above post - WGCI checks in with a substantially improved 2.2 share, their best mark of the past six surveys.

Apparently this station is a part of a network of stations of some sort, but an interesting name choice nonetheless. The tagline of Power 92.3 has been "#1 in the Streets" for many years.

the only other waste of time and money on this scale was the drunken hillbilly blowing through 4 billion dollars and then having to file BK. SMH

Streetz 95 has a unique branding approach. They routinely promote themselves as 95.1 and 105.1 HD-2. It's rare for a translator station to mention their HD parent station anytime other than the top of the hour. I suspect the approach here is to promote the use of 105.1 HD-2. Not sure how well this will work. It could be an interesting experiment!

HD radio never reached full-market success. Most broadcasters use HD radio as a loop-hole to re-broadcast content on low-powered translators. Some stations see (weak) success on their own, such as iHeart's Pride Radio. Will Streetz 95 be a HD radio breakthrough? I guess we will see.
