Strobe Lighting

Names and numbers please...who is a whiz at servicing strobe lighting and can reasonably be expected to drive into Indiana from some reasonable distance and have the parts to fix the *&^_**)& thing?

I had strobes on a small tower (just a couple of lights) and it took an ugly lightning hit. We just pulled the whole box off the tower and shipped it in for repair. A couple weeks later we got it back, reconnected the wiring and now you know the rest of the story.

I would rather pay a tower man to replace bulbs, than to pay a fortune for a strobe system that costs a fortune to repair. Just me...

I hate the things but this tower was allowed to be built on the condition it had strobes. Now I get to find someone who can fix the things and I don't want to bring someone in who'll look at them and mumble it might be this board and it might be that. Surely someone knows how to fix these albatrosses but maybe not? Did I mention how much I dislike these things???

Yeah, I hear you. Every manufacturer has a different style (design) and you almost have to have a specialist in your system to analyze and solve your problem...or pay a fortune in "trying" to fix it. I 'll stick with the bulbs...BUT...in your case, good luck....JBI

Bob,
There are only a few that specialize in strobe systems.
If you have a flash-tech system or other such as EEG
the choices are limited.
Strobe-Tech in Tenn or HiLights in Fla.
Both good friends and capable of repairs.

Does the FAA/FCC Tower Registration info include any mention of the manufacturer or model numbers?

No mention of the make or model lighting in the ASR; however, the ASR has the FAA lighting circular (standards) that the tower must comply with. You are free to chose any manufacturer as long as their equipment has been proven to comply with the standards.

Merry Christmas, Dr. Bob, and all you other old heads, too! Always nice to have a visitor at 1040 Hwy 6, west, Batesville....Cheers...JBI

Since many tall towers with strobes are exempt from paint requirements, how does the cost of maintaining a strobe system (assuming it isn't a lemon) compare to having to keep a tall (1000-2000 ft.) tower painted?

All I can say is one of the strobe levels on a tower near ours was malfunctioning recently...shining full-tilt boogie...from 10 miles away it was remarkable...once near the tower on the freeway, it lit up the interior of the car.

Let's just say a strobe lighting system has interesting results in a low level fog/cloud situation at night when you put the controller on the day setting.

Always find it interesting that the OP doesn't return so that
further questions can be asked and answered.
I haven't been back to the site since the original posting...that should happen in the next few days.

Got approval to bring in Strobe Tech http://strobetech.com/ . They are just a couple hundred miles away. They claim to be able to fix it in 1 trip...we'll see.
