Strong Cuban AM at 530 kHz?

Wow..signal covers all of Florida..and parts of Georgia. Heard it everywhere I went during the last trip to Tampa Bay. Good processing and interesting music. Are they licensing stations on 530khz? Is this intended for American audiences or Cubans? Spanish announcers of course, but a lot of American standards, and loads of "Muzak" type instrumentals. Odd.

I know there are a few Canadian AMs on 530 but not running a lot of power. This one has juice. So is 530 considered a Cuban or Canadian clear? Why no US stations on 530 (except a handful of TIS)

This is Radio Enciclopedia in La Habana, which has been on 530 since 2008 I think.

The US has used 530 in the Florida Keys for Radio Marti, mostly on weekends, and I assume that Cuba put a station there (actually two or more now, as there is at least one Radio Rebelde on 530 from an unknown location) to block Marti.

Before Enciclopedia was put there, they were trying other stations out on 530, including Radio Cadena Habana, whose AM is on 1080.

The reports I have seen have Enciclopedia at 50 kW, but I don't think they are using all of it. I think it can be heard all the way to New Orleans----in the daytime! It helps to be on a low frequency with power.

530 is not a Canadian clear, or a Cuban clear, or any clear. It's just another frequency being used now.

Its also cover the north florida big bend as well during the daytime but not reach Tallahassee. Tallahassee as an low-power AM station on AM-530 for Florida State info.

Yeah I think there would be also an issue of how far in the daytime that Enciclo's signal would penetrate inland....

Peachy reception for me at Honeymoon Island (west of Dunedin) around 3 weeks ago!

Jeff,

It's mostly local at my central Pinellas house (two miles from the coast), but as cd states there's some co-channel from Radio Rebelde (actually two -- one DF's a bit east of Enci which is near Habana), and another on the east end of the island which is generally not audible on this side of Florida. Cuba doesn't give a flip about registration; even their filings with the Swiss ITU are largely bogus.

Marti was on 530 via the Penn. Air National Guard over the Florida Straits but eventually this was farmed out to Phoenix Air (spook contractors) who -- if still active -- are broadcasting TV Marti only, no 530 any more.

And speaking, err writing, about fringe channels, I noticed last week that the FCC Wireless Telecomm Bureau has no less than four new entries for 1650 kHz in the Tampa Bay area: two are for I-275 travelers information stations at exits 39 and 44. Anyone know if these are active yet?

The other two are pending final approval and will be located at each end (St. Petersburg and Terra Ceia) of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

What about AM-640 no not the WVLG there another spanish AM station just like AM-530 and
AM 590?
