From 10 miles NW of New York City, with the skyline in view in many parts in my area, Philadelphia stations were coming in very strong like locals. In some spots, WBEB overtook WCBS, which really blew me away. WRNB was able to cut in to Z100 at certain spots. What was really interesting was tuning to WBAI which has no HD and getting a HD symbol for WJBR out of Wilmington and then taking over! 101.9, I tried to null out the fan in hopes of Baltimore, but instead got WCIB, a little faint. I also received Cape Cod, Hartford, Delmarva, Jersey Shore, and Long Island stations.

Strong tropo last night in the Northeast

I live in Trenton, NJ and Sunday evening while listening to 98.1 WOGL around the 9pm hour, it got completely wiped out by Cat Country 98.1 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. WOGL was totally gone for at least one hour. Also, I am getting Cruisin' 92.1 WVLT
Vineland and 92.1 WLNG Long Island coming in as clear as if it were in my backyard on the overnights.

Makes me think of when I lived in south Jersey and sometimes in summer the New York FMs would come in like locals along with the analog TV stations from my antenna on the roof that was pointed at New York.
I can remember at times where channels 2, 4, and 7 from New York would not only be local quality but without any 'lines' either. 5, 9, 11, and 13 could be clear without snow but still have some lines.
Then when the tropo got very intense other times, the New York stations were taken over by channels from Boston or at other times from channels down in Virginia where I got Channel 7 from Roanoke and channel 6 from Richmond took over our local channel 6 from Philadelphia for a short time.
Our peak tropo season here in Florida is the spring but summer isn't too good for real long distance tropo catches but it's the prime season in the northeast.

I am up in coastal RI for the holiday, and the tropo was intense all day yesterday. The center of it seemed to be coming from New Jersey, but I picked up and recorded stations all the way in Hampton Roads, VA and the Outer Banks of NC. The tropo was so strong that even on a Walkman, the strongest FM stations were not locals; the strongest stations were Cat Country 107.3 out of Atlantic City and 105.7 "The Hawk" out of the Jersey Shore. The opening seemed to have largely died down by 10 PM.
