Stuck out of town...

I hope to be back up for the first Tennessee home game next month. It's too quiet on this board. Is there anything going on with K-town radio this summer?

South Central made their PD do a little cost-cutting and dumped the morning show at 94.3 in favor of syndicated Free Beer and Hot Wings. Meaning that South Central now has the two most unlistenable syndicated morning shows right in their very building. Good job, guys.

The lease on 94.3 was supposed to be up this summer wasn't it? If they're looking to let it go back, it's time to slash expenses.

I had been told when it was last renewed that it, like 100.3, had a July 1st date on its contract, though they expired in different years. So when July 1 passed, I assumed there had been some sort of renewal, though I never saw one reported. Could be wrong on the date, but that's what a reliable person that's now out of the market told me last time around.

In the event they do lose 94.3, I fully expect SS to put the X format on 95.7 and continue Jack on 106.7.

Well, if you have a little bit of extra time, you can always run by 94.3's main studio. I would assume it's either at South Central's compound or the WNOX building. The LMA should be in the public file. Besides, for radio geeks, it's usually pretty interesting to comb through a public file now-and-then.

By the way, I've never listened to Free Beer and Hot Wings. So, I can't comment as to whether I think it's one of the worst syndicated morning shows around. However, I have to agree with you. Brian, on John Boy & Billy, though I don't think Bob & Tom are any prize either!

A lot of us have the blessing and the curse of knowing on air talent personally. It's always shaded my opinion of their work. John Boy especially. He's been one of the most likeable ones at every radio station he's ever worked at. Listening to him reminds me of how much he's been through personally and that it could just have easily gone horribly wrong had he not found the right situation. He and Claude could have been neighbors at the cemetery right now if not.

That being said, I've told him to his face that his show is the corniest, stupidest thing on the air and that I'm proud of his sorry, redneck arse. He took it as the compliment that it was intended to be.

I'm not quite interested enough to truck it out to North Knoxville, haha.

Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of respect for John Boy and Billy, I don't like their show, especially the constant giggling at less than funny jokes, but they do good numbers in a lot of markets, so they appeal to somebody. It's just not me.

One of the TV sports guys is now working at 100.3. It looks like he's going to be covering high school sports. From what it sounds like, he has some sales experience and he's getting money the other sports stations have been leaving on the table.

You mean the septic tank manufacturing, dumpster delivery, and heavy equipment hauling markets haven't yet reached their full potential?

Who are you talking about? Haven't heard about this arrangement.

Didn't I just hear on 94.3 about the new "94.3 Roto-Rooter Septic Tank, Rent To Own, Convenience Store. and Meth Lab Studios"

South Central is stealing plays from Citadel's game book then.

Bottom of the page.

Never heard of him, must have been on TV a loooong time ago. From the way you said it, I thought you were talking about someone currently on hair that people would have heard of.

I think Ch. 26 was in color when he was on. He's under 60, so he's still a rookie as far as I'm concerned.
