Stuck up in the air

I notice that 87.7 FM's RDS radio information screen is stuck again. Last time it was stuck for a long time on "The Pit" by The Silversun Pickups. Now it's stuck on "Up In The Air" by 30 Seconds To Mars. Maybe they ought to send their present RDS system to mars and get a new one.

Whatever song it is, I hope it's another one that is useful in making comical posts here. It was "The Pits" to have their RDS down. Now they are stuck "Up In The Air".

I hate how they edit the line "I'll wrap my hands around your neck so tight with love". I understand sensitivity, but if Clear Channel won't do it....

I just bought a new 2013 car an the radio starts at 87.9  The previous year's models did have 87.7 (at least a SYNC brochure mentioned 87.7-107.9). But the car's manual said 87.9 - 107.9 as "defined by the FCC".

I guess the only reason radios had 87.7 was back when TV ch 6 was analog, you could hear a TV station audio in your car. With the end of analog that gave the radio MFGR's a reason to drop 87.7. But why include 87.9? That frequency is also "out of band".

I ended up buying a portable HD radio that goes down to 87.5 and I plug it into the AUX inputs.

Danny! Why did you do it? I was going to start a thread called "Because The Stuck", but you beat me to it. Darn! (lol).

Seriously, it's too bad they are having such trouble with their radio display because there one of the stations that it is most valuable to have it on seeing as how they don't play the same-old same-old all the time-o. I hope they'll get it up and running again.

LOL, I listen to 87.7 almost exclusively in the car. I know some love the format and others hate it. I pretty much like what they're doing, but would like it better if they merged what they have now with the playlist V1073 used to have, would be a near perfect station. 99.1 is just a little too hard edged for me. But given I just turned 60, I like the classics mixed in like they both do (87.7 and the old v1073), and I like a good bunch of the new stuff. I'm old school, just like the old AM stations in the 60's, even though they played mainly rock, R&B,  and pop, they balanced it out with other formats like some country, MOR, progressive later on, etc. I listen to a very varied playlist at home, on one of my PC's that I broadcast thru a Ramsey FM25 transmitter that covers my house and a few others. One minute it's like you're listening to 87.7 or V1073, next tune may be from Q104 or 96.5, next one from WGAR, next from 98.5 or WMJI, then maybe a pre-1964 oldie, then a tune by Pitbull or even a Latin tune, followed maybe by a country oldie from the 60's, and of course some R&B classics in the mix, some that were hardly ever played on the radio. Plus I scour European and Aus/NZ Top 40 surveys to see what's current there, and if I like it, I add it. Plus some tunes never heard since the WNCR/early Buzzard days. Even one or two that the Fish plays. However I steer away from most hip-hop. Eat your heart out Lake, "I Play Anything".

I hope to get it online in the near future, will update here when/if that happens. I used to do it with shoutcast till someone tried hacking my computer.

The close-to "perfect radio station" is one that generates big revenue. If advertisers are energized to buy lots of spots, then things are all-good.
