Studio 60 gone?

What's the deal with NBC's Studio 60?
I've heard from a source that it has been "Shelved until a future date somewhere down the road"
(translation: cancelled, unless another show fails to perform...right?)

Does anyone have any further information on this?
Or is my "source" not a very good source?

It's getting pulled for "The Black Donnelys," but is supposed to be back in late April. "Studio 60" has never lived up the the hype, and while critics would miss the show, I don't think that many regular tv watchers would even notice.

This regular TV viewer loves Studio 60. I filled out a very detailed NBC Universal-enabled survey about the show. Sadly with the price tag it has and the ratings it's been getting, the future's cloudy for it. As a loyal viewer of Studio 60, I hope it gets renewed.

I was enjoying the show. But now they are getting too bogged down with the love interests and that is changing the direction of the show. If they would get back to their roots of seeing what happens behind the scenes of actually putting on a live show, then that would be 'Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip', the show I would watch.

The plot doesn't seem all that bad though.
Something as simple as being stuck on the roof sounds possible, and realistic, so I don't view that as tearing away from their roots.(intentionally)

I think it was smart, since it *could* happen in real life. (if it hasn't already)

As for the snake running loose in the studio, that also could happen, but I guess bringing in the extra animals was just to add humour to the situation...still not a bad plot.

It sounds like, for the most part, the writers (of this show) are not the problem...(so far...)

It does not surprise me that Studio 60 is going off the air. I enjoyed the first few episodes until, as others mentioned on here, the plot shifted from how the show is put together to the love interest angle.

Besides the networks don't give shows the chance to gain an audience like they did years ago.

Here is an example of shows, when they first aired, had few viewers.

All in the Family
Mary Tyler Moore
Sanford and Son
Seinfeld

It took either summer reruns or time slot changes for these and other shows, to gain an audience. The long hiatus between episodes has also been a hindrance when it comes to keeping an audience. Example: The Shield. I can't remember the last episode which aired what, last year? The Sopranos is another example along with 24,
The Dead Zone and the list continues.

Not 100% sure, but I believe that M*A*S*H was one of those shows too. It was almost a complete failure during the normal season run, but the ratings started to go up during the rerun season during the summer.

Unlike networks now a day, they didn't cancel a show after 3 episodes if it wasn't making the best ratings.

Add the origional Dick Van Dyke show to the list of shows that almost got cancelled.

I will miss Studio 60 when it's gone but it will give me more time away from the idiot box to do other things.

I would have thought that awful "30 Rock" show would have gone away before studio 60.

"60" is clearly the better show.

I really like STUDIO 60 and hope they will not be so quick with the axe. Maybe do like MASH, and start it from the beginning in the Summer. Maybe it will build an audience. The acting is terrific and I really enjoy the story lines, even the sappy love ones are pretty good.

i like studio 60, a lot. i think it's well written and has a great cast

it's on my on-screen digital cable guide as "on" tonite. they did order 22 episodes so if they do try something different monday nites (competing against csi-miami and mon nite football) i hope they at least give studio 60 another shot in another time slot

and gary is right-30rock is lame-o

After tonights episode, there wasn't a mention about catching the show again on nbc.com.

But as for the remaining shows, NBC may be saving the new ones for the Summer. Therefore will cut down on reruns.

As for 30 Rock. At first I was really disappointed in the shows. But lately I have noticed that the characters are growing into their roles nicely. It looks like things are coming together.

NBC could always move Studio 60 to Bravo. Seems like it would be a good fit there. I agree that this high quality show has gotten bogged down in mediocre plot meanderings. I'm so tired to shows that feel they just have to throw two characters together in a love interest...in this show's case...four characters! What are the chances in real life? Also, I agree with the last poster about 30 Rock. That show has really come into it's own nicely. I hope it gets renewed and finds it's audience. After a rough start, Tina Fey has become a sitcom actress.

There is no room on Bravo for it. The evening line-up is full.

look for it to return as a spring (different night) or summer replacement show

Wow I agree "30 Rock" is an awful show. I'm no snob but I found "30 Rock" to be more embarassing than funny not to mention a total was of time. I should read more books anyway, books can't get cancelled!

Books DO get cancelled!
Sometimes you need to go to book clearance centres to find certain books, and then
some mention "part two coming soon" and the author doesn't publish...
Then there's the anger when an author kills off a favorite charactor...

i can't escape the feeling that a lot of the problem with studio 60 was the promos. my schedule of favorite shows would have allowed me to check it out but the promos were such a turn-off that i found myself watching various "discovery" type channels instead of even giving it a shot.

I wonder, the press made such a big deal about "Studio 60" bombing in the ratings if you hadn't seen it wouldn't it make you stay away from it? After all who wants to get interested in a show that could be cancelled at any minute?

I have a very different take on Studio 60:

Unlike 30 Rock which is total farce, I expected Studio 60 to put a dramatic twist on some of the thigns that go on behind Saturday Night Live, since it essentially is about SNL. And there is plenty of fun material to cover, like whathappens when you adlib and you are not supposed to, or what happens when Musical Guests do stuff that wasn't planned or tear up the stage. Or, what about Guest hosts or regulars who have egos and don't get along? All those thigns REALLY did and do happen on the real SNL.

So, like he did with the West Wing, I expected (or hoped) that Adam Sorkin would stay close to reality. But instead, what did they do? They focused on some falacious love story (which is not too realistic), and came up with some story lines which bare little resemblence to what really goes on.
