Studio Rumors

We know for a fact that All-News 106.7 will be moving from Interstate North to Johnson Ferry by October 1.

A couple of rumors are out there regarding other potential moves:

One rumor is that after 106.7 vacates the Interstate North facility, Star 94 (and I guess 790 The Zone) will move there. On the other hand, a friend of mine is telling me that LFM CEO Don Benson recently told him that Star will never leave Buckhead.

The other rumor is that after Cumulus' lease expires in a year at the (now very crowded) Johnson Ferry facility, the local stations will move to the Terminus building, where Cumulus Corporate is already located.

I guess these rumors are not as exciting as Clear Channel flipping 96.1 to Klezmer music.

IMHO Oct. 1st is cutting it close. Not only moving studios which is big job in itself, they will have to rework the STL. I assume they will be using T1 and or some kind of microwave link, one backing up the other. You still have to get microwave STL's approved by the FCC, and I assume moving one takes permission too.

This doesn't make any sense to me. AN106.7 has constructed a news center (not just temporary, look on their FB page) and there is really not a reason they shouldnt have their own space.

Not sure I understand your logic. How do you know all that's necessary on the technical side hasn't been in progress? The 106.7 move is not a rumor; it's fact. The Interstate North lease is up on September 30. I've seen the new studio and newsroom at Johnson Ferry under construction.

With all Cumulus has invested, I am sure it will be top-notch.

I would hope they are getting ready. I was looking at the FCC site and WQLL345 "WYAY's microwave link" change of location was filed 08/29/12 apparently after my post.

I hope the FCC gets thing processed by Oct. 1st or WYAY will have to use a T1. I guess some one at Cumulus reads these postings. PM me I an I will tell how to sent me my "consulting" fee. (Just Kidding!)

*If your browser will not follow the link: go to fcc.gov and enter FM query in nthe search box then enter WYAY then use the "Related facilities in ULS"

I currently have 8 microwave shots. All spread spectrum digital. None licensed. No license required. The Clioud Company is probably too cheap to go in that direction however.

When I was in the USAF, there was equipment using spread spectrum that was classified. Of course this was before the Internet was open to the general public.
Spread spectrum was invented by Hedy Lamarr (look it up--her real name is on the patent--one smart woman!). Yes, it was classified for a while and was used to broadcast "screech transmissions" to and from spies. Now it's all over the place.
