Stuff from the 70s

I grew up in the Boston area in the 70s/80s. I love seeing the old station sign ons/offs from then and some of the local programming. (Community Suditions, Jabberwocky, The Movie Loft, Lenny Clark on TV38 etc..)Is there anyone out there that has any of this local history on tape? I'd love to find some of it.

I'd have paid money to watch a show called "Community Suditions."
(I believe you meant Community Auditions, LOL.)

I remember the Movie Loft, hosted by the late Dana Hersey. I think it went big time on all the Storer stations for a short while.

I used to have one of WBZ's Eyewitness News opens on a betamax tape somewhere. And to show you how old this was, it was a weekend edition of Nightcast and Andy Hiller was the anchor.
Sadly, I no longer have betamax machine, and I'm not sure where the tape is...

Re: Dana Hersey, alive and well! (was Re: Stuff from the 70s)

And Dana Hersey's deep voice is still much in demand for commercials as well as narrations for industrial videos.

Re: Dana Hersey, alive and well! (was Re: Stuff from the 70s)

Dana Hersey also did a weekly Connecticut Lottery game show on WFSB in the mid 70s. He started each show by saying, "Are you feeling lucky?"

Did Dana ever find another chair for his ego?

Bill1820 recalls:

Some years later (on "Ask The Manager"?), Hersey recalled it. The show had a studio audience, some of whom would get to win cash on that show, and when Hersey asked "Are You Feeling Lucky?", the audience would roar "Yesssss!!".

Re: Dana Hersey, alive and well! (was Re: Stuff from the 70s)

I live in Connecticut. Was the show called "Rainbow Jackpot" by any chance? It aired on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) in its last days, sometime in the 1980s.

OK, I just checked the history page at ctlottery.org. It mentions a weekly game show called "Double Play", which came on in September 1976.

What are you talking about?

Re: HUH?

Obviously, you have never met the man or you would not ask.

The Money Tree (CT. State Lottery)

The show was called "The Money Tree", and Dana would take the trip weekly to Hartford (at WFSB-TV) during his tour of duty with the Connecticut State Lottery. in the late 1970's. I actually was able to get WFSB-TV from time to time while living in Randolph, MA from 1960-1977. Of course when I moved to Great Barrington from 1977-79, WFSB was on the cable and saw Dana on the show. Eventually, they added WSBK-TV (Channel 38) to the Great Barrington, Lee and West Stockbridge cable line-up in April, 1978.

Re: Dana Hersey

Dana Hersey can currently be seen as host of a real-estate show on WLVI-56 each Sunday morning.

I believe this is a paid program of some sort.
