Stunting on 97.9

So, I understand that Cumulus is stunting on the translator of 97.9. At least that's what AllAccess is saying. (I cant actually pick up the station.)

So how can they do this? I thought a "translator" needed to rebroadcast another station.

?????????

They are. WWWQ-HD3 (99.7-HD3)

99X (now at the translator at 99.1) is WWWQ-HD2.

And, I assume, 680 The Fan at 93.7 is WNNX-HD2, since you still can't FM translate an AM station directly.

Yes but why can;t the station they are re-broadcasting not be stunting?

Jabba17, actually you can now translate an AM station. The FCC has been allowing it for several years. The reason why they are relaying the HD signal is that the area allowed for a fill-in translator of 99.7 is much larger than for 680 directly.

WCNN-AM is not broadcasting on any of the Cumulus HD signals and never has. WNNX-FM is only broadcasting one HD signal. I assume the logical thing to do would be eventually placing it on WNNX-HD2.

Actually 99.7 is broadcasting 3 HD signals as i type theis. HD-1 is the regular Q 100, HD-2 is 99x and HD-3 is the simlucast for 97.9 fm.
