Stunting on KKGO HD3

I am old enough to remember Beautiful Music KBIG and KOST and they absolutely Beautified the Beatles (can't believe I just wrote that!).
Better composing those words than making that actual remix. ;)

I also remember both being instrumental stations. And various great grandparents being upset that KOST switched to AC, forcing them to tune their dials half a degree clockwise to KBIG.

What I can't remember is if KBIG gradually introduced vocals to its instrumental format before switching to AC, the way KOST did.

Don't forget besides KOST 103.5, and KBIG 104.3 there was also KJOI 98.7 and at this time, if you can believe it, there was actually a record store on VN Blvd in Sherman Oaks that specialized in the music of those 3 stations and a had big sign visible to the traffic that said so!

Good grief! Does anyone know what the hold up is for going Classic County?

I'll be quite happy if I never, ever hear "Back In The Saddle" ever again. 🤮
They are talking about software and monitor upgrades on 105.1 currently. Maybe they are updating the studios?

"8:15 on KOST and that was Andre Kostelanetz and the 101 Strings with their lovely rendition of Why Don't We Do It In The Road."

Richard Wagoner is reporting that KKGO HD4 will return to Oldies. Presumably when Big Country launches.
I'm glad to know that, but it's also regrettable they never put much effort into the smooth jazz format running there now. I captured their stream metadata for two weeks in March and found that their HD4 had a grand total of only 186 songs in its playlist. I tried a second time for one additional week in May, and the total didn't increase by even one.

KOST flipped first to Soft AC in 1982. Dick Clark did TV commercials telling listeners about the new KOST. KBIG followed KOST from Easy to Soft AC in 1987, at least according to Wikipedia.

I remember when both stations were almost identical in the late 1980s, at least to my ears. Both stations played Soft Hits with no talking over the song intros. Both had male-female morning teams back when that wasn't so common. I remember vacationing in LA for a week. I'd walk into a business or office and the radio was set to KOST or KBIG. I had to wait until a break to figure out which was playing.

Indeed, don't listen for a couple of days, then randomly tune in and within 30 minutes you are almost guaranteed to hear Lionel Ritchie's "Hello".
