Stunting With Sinatra?

Sounds like Citadel Buffalo has plans to do Standards on its 1270 WHLD Niagara Falls-Buffalo signal. Knowing AM 740 consistently pulls a few 12+ shares (mostly 65+) in this market, it's a smart move. The question is, are they doing it in-house or LMA'ing the rights to another party? And did Citadel head-off another Buffalo AM station that had this format in the works?

Shows how out of touch I am. There was that group that LMA'd WHLD to run Air America several years back. IIRC, they wound up sub-leasing(if that's the correct way of putting it) WHLD to that World Gospel Ministries group. That apparently is ancient history?

According to Wikipedia, WHLD dropped gospel on August 2nd. Standards could be a nice fit for those folks still trying to get Sinatra on WECK. If they bump the scan button, they might feel right at home in their Lincoln Town Cars and Cadillac Broughams. Maybe the Catholic Diocese will move the Catholic Cemetaries spots over to WHLD since WHTT commercial sets seem to be getting pretty long these days, and somebody at Citadel would likely make them a heck of a deal.

This AM iPod station will be a favorite in skilled care facilities and with those who drive a Crown Vic. Should do well 65+. Question is, who's gonna buy advertising on it? Very likely, WHLD will be comped with WHTT (#1, 50+) and packaged against WBEN. In the present radio advertising climate, every station hawks 25-54. The sweet spot is 25-49 and the G-spot is Women 35-44. The breadth of music on WHLD is pretty good, but sweet sister of mercy, music on AM is hard to endure. You really have to want to listen. Since no other Western New York station is doing this format (WECK abandoned it years ago and WJJL is a trainwreck) it should do well going up against Toronto's AM 740. The WHLD audio seems to have a weird artifact, probably a result of the five tower directional pattern day and night. The present TOH in use states WHLD Buffalo. I could be wrong, but from all indications on the FCC data base, the COL is Niagara Falls, NY.
