Stupid radio contests

K104 started a new contest yesterday where if you're the 10th caller, you have to give them the name of a friend. If that friend calls in within 5 minutes, you win $1000. The friend gets nothing. The conest is called, "Radio Tag", or "Phone Tag". It's stupid and I think they know it too. If anyone can top that one, share it.

I think both callers should get $1000 but neither my friends or I listen to K104 so it's a moot point.

What about that contest where you have to guess the secret sound? Pretty weak.

That's stupid and unfair... but how about the "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest? The radio contest from Sacramento where you had to drink gallons of water WITHOUT peeing, which then lead to a death from someone who did it? That's probably the stupidest contest in history!

My nomination goes to Young County 105.3, which ran a contest in early April, 1994, causing damage to a lot of books at the Fort Worth library.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times:

FORT WORTH, Texas Fort Worth's public library was in shambles Wednesday after a local radio station announced it had hidden $5 and $10 bills in the fiction books section and prompted listeners to go in search of the cash.

More than 500 people stampeded through the Fort Worth Central Library on Tuesday evening looking for the money after the publicity stunt by Dallas-based country radio station KYNG-FM.

The library staff and a host of volunteers were busy Wednesday sorting through more than 3,000 books that frenzied listeners tossed on the floor

When listeners start hearing all about their comings and goings with or without their friends, complete with matching advertisers, and then some jock starts asking for other air people to back them up if they get caught, then it will be over the top.

Yes it was. And the family sued Entracom and won a judgement with money as well.
