Style, E!, Oxygen, Bravo

When will NBC Universial decide to merge some of these same type of networks together? The two that I can see being merged first would have to be Style and Bravo with the network taking the name popular Bravo name.

Don't forget USA and make one 24/7 Drama's and Comdies and one 24/7 Kids programs and one just for Movies and one like HGTV?

Why bother? Why would any media corporation give up channel space? If anything, they want to extend their reach, not lose the chance at getting eyeballs.

When you scan a weekly schedule, Bravo is basically the Real Housewives Channel. Well over half and sometimes two-thirds of the schedule is RH. If anything, you might start seeing more and more re-purposing of successful programming on lesser cousins, the way that Discovery is propping up OWN by dragging some of their dreck to try and get eyeballs.

There's absolutely no reason to do that.

Actually, I'm wondering something different. I want to know when Comcast will add Chiller and Fearnet HD to the lineups on a national scale. Both are networks they either own or have a stake in, yet are not taking advantage of the distribution.

I could see Bravo and Style "merging" but only to launch a new network with a pre-existing footprint. But, seeing as how it is a pretty crowded market already (especially in kids programming) I'd have to wonder what they could launch that would perform better than the two channels as they exist separately.

Also, they already have a bigger problem to deal with (G4). Maybe they could use their partnership with WWE to propel that network into the big leagues?

The NBComcastUniversal deal was primarily struck because Comcast wanted more cable properties, not because they wanted to get rid of their own. The more cable properties one owns, the better.

The only possible merger I could ever see is G4 with any of their lower channels such as Chiller and Sleuth because of G4's deeper contracts with providers and low channel numbers which would immediately boost either channel. However with G4 naming a new CEO, it's likely they're going to try their best to rescue that channel however they can and there won't be any end to G4 anytime soon.

The other one that can easily go is Oxygen, which is pretty much a lost cause. 22 out of their 24 hours of programming isn't HD, and their biggest programming is Glee reruns and the godawful and exploitative Snapped and Bad Girls Club. That's the more likely merger with Style, but as I say below...

NBC and Comcast already have done their cull of the worst of the programming with each of the channels; all the $3 reused viral video shows are dead and buried on Versus/NBC Sports Network, most of the programming on Style which cost too much for little ratings is gone, and E! is hyperfocused on its niche of 'guilty pleasure'. Oxygen is so bogged down with rerun deals still remaining from the original Carsey-Werner ownership that they won't be able to go anytime soon, while G4 is already rescuing their daytime lineup with NBCU library shows such as Quantum Leap, which is certainly better than the cop shows that were filling that time beforehand.

I agree that Oxygen doesn't fit that well anymore, and seems stale.

Comcast only has 51% ownership in NBCUniversal, so Style and Oxygen are more like half-sisters than anything. I'm not sure how they could merge so simply.

Either Comcast could totally rename/rebrand Oxygen, or maybe they could just outright sell it for some cash. Perhaps to Fox who lacks a female oriented channel.

Actually, as part of the deal, Comcast transferred ownership of all Comcast networks to NBCU, so they are under the same parent now. Merging networks would be no big deal, just as rebranding them isn't.

We are more likely to see more rebranding, maybe some format shifts. As has been stated before, they wouldn't want to give up that extra channel space they have. I forgot just how many networks they owned though!
