Style, not G4, rebranding as Esquire Network September 23.

So G4 canceled all their originals for nothing. Nice going.

What NBCU should do now is convert it to the WWE Network that's been in the works for ages.

Nice job NBC/Comcast. Kill a network and then at the last minute, kill another network INSTEAD of the network it was killing...

At first this really didn't make sense because on the surface it seems completely stupid, and it really is. They're doing the same thing Discovery did to the Home channel; kiill it and their home programming for a year-long green fad in Planet Green which ended up as Destination America.

But then again, there's one thing Style has that G4 isn't going to get with anything they could have; DirecTV coverage. G4's been off there since 2010 and shows no signs of coming back. Easy call to kill the SATC and Gossip Girl reruns for Esquire's slate because it gets around DTV's "yeah, we're never picking this channel up again" reasoning.

Really though this is covering up two things; two botched launches. Style's re-launch failed miserably, while G4 is pretty much dead because the original Esquire launch date was five months ago. And I remember I said a year back that eventually, either Style or Oxygen was going to be killed because of too much overlap. Style ended up the loser there, and Esquire will get a better launch and a channel space people actually watch when it starts up.

lol, so after like a month of G4 stunting as changing to the esquire network, they change their minds. lol stupid.

So, What's next for NBC? Turn G4 into USA-2, like what TBS did for TNT & FX did for FXX.
I was thinking they could turn G4 into NBCSN2 to keep up with Fox launching FS1 and FS2 simultaneously and, of course, the ESPN family of networks. However, your idea may be better; of the two gauntlets Fox laid down this year, the sports nets may be getting more attention, but the entertainment side will end up being the more interesting of the two.

In my fantasy world, one of two things would happen:
- NBCU reboots G4 as a hybrid of the pre-NBCU G4 and the old-school TechTV. Shows like "X-Play" and "Attack of the Show" would co-exist with "The Screen Savers" and "Call For Help" (and I'm aware that AOTS was essentially a retool of TSS). Most of the Spike-esque elements like MMA coverage and endless "Cops" reruns would go away.
- NBCU sells G4 to someone like Leo Laporte or Chris Hardwick, who then turns G4 into a geek-oriented channel.

In reality, G4 will continue to languish in its current half-dead state well into next year, possibly longer, mostly to hold the satellite transponder and cable/satellite channel slots until the next big idea comes along. This isn't the first time one of the major groups forgot to shut down a network; ABC/Disney's Soapnet has been Dead Network Walking for a year and a half now.

NBCSN doesn't have enough content for an NBCSN2. I don't even think Fox really does.

G4 and Style should have just been combined into the Esquire Network; one less channel but one stronger channel. (And yes, I know those channels have no demographic overlap.)

NBC does have Universal Sports to draw content from if they cared about it. Heck, they could turn NBCSN itself into NBCSN2 and merge the Golf Channel in if they wanted to.

So do you just waste the channel spot you got rid of? And yes, I know TechTV pretty much up and disappeared...

Which is why Fox Sports 2 will just simply be a rebranding of Fuel with little to no programming changes

Actually Bravo & Style should've been the ones to be combined into one since they both basically appeal to the same audience

JMO though.....

Cheers & 73 :D

Fox Sports 2 can show at 11pm on Saturday's in CF season Fox Sports Live none CF Highlights and other CF Games to.
NBC can show like repeats Bob C. tonight,Highlights,Dan Patrick best of the day and so on.

A little update to the status of G4. Time Warner Cable dropped it today, while FIOS is dropping the linear channel next month, but keeping on-demand content. Might as well, since that channel was going to cease to exist anyway.

Either that or a Racing channel to replace SPEED channel (Now Fox Sports 1). A better soccer channel than what Fox has on would be nice too

Short of that, I'd say keep it as a tech channel & program it better since CBS doesn't seem interested in doing anything with CNET TV except keeping it as an online channel (I seemingly recall them flirting with the idea of launching it as a diginet on their O&O's once)

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 :)
