Subchannel Discussion Thread

H&I has updated it's schedule to include new shows Relic Hunter, JAG, BeastMaster and Nash Bridges. Quest has also added Yukon Gold, Mega Builders, Myth Hunters, American Underworld and Deep Wreck Mysteries to its schedule. Hopefully they add more new series like this soon as the schedule has gone very stale with shows repeated regularly. It doesn't help that a lot of the shows the acquired don't have many episodes.

Why does Antenna show Sabrina the Teenage Witch in through all the old classic TV series like Silver Spoons and Johnny Carson? It seems very random. It's the only show of its kind on the channel and it sticks out.

I didn't know JAG was on H&I. Decades has been running it on Tuesdays.

Antenna's lineup seems to change every quarter. I suspect it may be part of their licensing agreement to rotate shows. I wasn't aware they were now running Sabrina.

Justice Network have also added Southern Fried Homicide, FBI: Criminal Pursuit, Parking Wars, Unraveled and the Real NCIS to their schedule.

I'm surprised that neither H&I nor Comet has considered adding "Highlander: The Series" to their lineups.

Charter Spectrum added H&I I a couple of weeks ago guessing it maybe coming out from South Bend as none of the bigger stations carry it. I think it's the former Fox station from South Bend.

July 2018 and Yakima has yet to add the following subchannels:
Antenna TV
Movies!
This TV (lost to Telemundo)
Escape
Grit (lost to Stadium)
Decades
Cozi TV
getTV
Laff
BUZZR
Bounce
Justice Network
Heroes & Icons

Isn't that sad?! Here's what we get, in terms of subchannel networks:
MeTV, Stadium, Charge!, Comet, TBD, plus Create/PBS Kids. That's it! Yakima stations are so behind the times it's not even funny. Go to Seattle and you get almost everything.

At least you guys have Stadium. In Northeast Ohio, it is available on WQDI Channel 20.4 in Akron/Canton, but that station has a very small coverage area. There's no way I'd be able to pick it up. Likewise, Buzzr is on low-powered WEKA Channel 41.2 in Canton, but trying to pick it up in my neck of the woods would be futile as well.

Cleveland also has some digital subchannels that Spectrum has yet to include in their channel lineup:
WKYC Channel 3.4 (Quest)
WJW Channel 8.3 (Comet)
WJW Channel 8.4 (Charge!)
WVPX Channel 23.2 (Qubo)
WVIZ Channel 25.5 (PBS Kids)
WBNX Channel 55.4 (Heroes & Icons)
WQHS Channel 61.2 (UniMas)
WQHS Channel 61.4 (Escape)

1. Seattle is a much bigger market with more stations available
2. The owners of the stations make the difference

I see the owners of the Yakima stations are Sinclair, Cowles, Morgan Murphy, Brian Brady and 2 LP stations. Sinclair is going to thrust their diginets (Comet, Stadium, Charge, TBD) on their own stations. Cowles only owns 2 types of stations which are ABC/FOX stations and NBC/SWX stations. The 2 LP stations look like they do shopping and Spanish. Morgan Murphy does have stations with Me & H&I on them so in theory they could add H&I.

And Seattle doesnt have everything...but again it goes back to owners
-Justice and Quest on KING....Tegna station (agreement with both at launch)
-Me, Movies & H&I on KFFV...Weigel O&O station (owner of said diginets)
-This and Antenna on KCPQ & KZJO..Tribune stations (as of now). Diginets are owned by Tribune.
-Decades on KSTW CW11 which is a CBS O&O (Decades 1/2 owned by CBS)

Laff, Grit & Escape are thrown on different stations with different owners which is unique as these 3 + Bounce are usually grouped together on stations with same owner (like Nexstar)

There are other markets "worse off" than you are :)

Stadium to me is a very low-budget ESPN. Not worth having even for the rebroadcasts of major sporting events from the past few years - how Sinclair got the rights from NBC Sports, and ESPN, and others to air those, I don't know. Grit had much better programming IMO. The Yakima Valley has a lot of older cowboy, family values folks - people that would still watch 1940s westerns to this day.
Spectrum did add H&I to their lineup, but we don't subscribe to it. I guess you need to have the Silver package to get it. Say what?! H&I should be on basic cable IMO since it's a subchannel network, over the air, in most markets.

Yeah, we get practically every en-Espanol channel here MINUS UniMas (Yakima County is almost 50% Hispanic). But there shouldn't be any problems getting at least Antenna, This and H&I here, along with somebody bringing back Grit. I would love to watch those old Johnny Carson reruns that Antenna TV airs at night. I'm getting so sick of Spectrum's crazy-high prices, no wonder people are going down to OTA/Netflix. $185+ on this month's bill!!!

KC area missing My Family Network and KSKC-LD has RTN,REV and so on,Charge and FOX4KC has one of Sinclair's station TBD,Comet is on KCTV5 and Stadium on KCMN. Missing lots of Spanish Channels and so on.

It's a wonder no company has started a lifestyle/reality/factual type subchannel with property, food, DIY, makeover, reality, travel, paranormal series. These programs rate well on HGTV/Food Network. These shows would be cheap to acquire and there surely is a gap in the market for an OTA subchannel like this?

What's happening with Live Well Network? I thought it was shutting down but it's still in some parts of the US. It has no new shows just repeats. Are they waiting for contracts to expire or what? Why is it not shut down fully yet?

it is only carried on the 8 ABC O&O stations. Since ABC/Disney owns it, I doubt there is a contract involved.

They took out national distrubtion but kept it on its 8 ABC O&O stations. I don't know when it will finally shut down but I see it happening sooner rather than later.

Stadium is not nearly as good as it's predecessor, ASN. That channel at least showed a number of live and replayed college sporting events. Stadium is 90% talking head shows, and very cheaply produced ones at that.

Does anybody even watch TBD? Seriously?? Millenials are really not OTA TV consumers, and even if they were, they wouldn't be watching THIS.

If the rumors of the demise of Decades are true, I am going to miss it. Yes, the original concept was flawed, in that the schedule kept changing so much you could not keep track of what shows were airing when. I really hope that somebody picks-up and runs with the Weekend Binge concept though. I really enjoyed those.

Cozi TV is showing three episodes of “Murder, She Wrote” in a row Monday through Friday. It was one of, if not the, oldest-skewing show on network TV during its run (along with “Matlock” and “Diagnosis: Murder”), is its core audience still around? Surprising that these diginets are making money off of running old westerns and more recent drams that skew very old.

Hopefully, anything. Like I've said before, see how many subchannel networks this market is missing? H&I and Antenna TV are the big ones we're missing among many others.
