Subliminal message on WPRO

Here's another thing I've noticed on WPRO; Dan Yorke consulting the politicians political campaigns. He's gone from criticizing the candidates, to criticizing the campaign managers! Do you think this has anything to do with the fact he owns a political consulting business?

Coast to Coast is pretty much what there is left when it comes to overnight radio...tends to scare the very old..they freak out when they go hard core UFO..I remember working on christmas eve in the midwest a few years ago..Coast to Coast ran a ''best of'' that examined if autistic people were actually aliens studying earth culture..

Not making this up..

If I remember correctly, overnights are rated..not sure what the PPM numbers would be in Providence, but there are people who will isten overnight..they tend to have some wicked insomnia, or they are really intoxicated..or both..

Savage would be smart if he just went internet only..no middle man..charge maybe 2.99 a month for an on line subscription...or go the Adam Carolla route and do a podcast that can be sponsered...wasting time on terrestrial radio isn't worth the headache.

Well Savage can make a whole lot more money from a real radio corporation than he would be able to make from a podcast. However it's awesome to have the creative freedom to say and do whatever you wish without having anyone boss you around. So it's going to come down to what's more important to him. Cash or Freedom. He's had so much trouble with various groups rallying against him that I could realisticly see him choosing the freedom. It's a breath of fresh air to not have to be concerned with other people telling you how to do your show. You also can't be fired either. That is nice security to have in the crazy world of broadcasting where everyone eventually gets fired.

As far as "Coast to Coast" goes. Overnight radio has always catered to a different audience. Those people who don't live a typical 9 to 5 schedule. Lots of older people, Unemployed people, Self employed people, insomniacs. Overnighters, truck drivers. A whole lot of interesting types awake at that hour. I'm one of them. I've been this way since High School. I was always the guy who stayed up half the night. Sometimes all night. Certain people function better that way. So overnight programming definitely has it's place for people like myself. There are a lot of us.

Untrue! There's also the BBC World Service, a staple of overnight programming for many NPR news/talk stations. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it works the time zone difference (they're either four or five hours ahead of the east coast, depending on the time of year/daylight savings) nicely as "overnight" for us is "morning drive" for the BBC.
