Subtle Weekend Programming Changes with V-103

First, I've noticed that "Throwback Sundays" Sundays from noon to 2pm is gone altogether. Now in its place is a 2-hour stretch of contemporary and gold neo-soul music hosted by either Ramona DeBreaux or Bubby Love. Secondly, the Sunday edition of the "Da Takeover with Lil Bankhead and DJ Infamous" has been eliminated to air "Live in the Den with Big Tigger" after it got bumped from Saturday mornings 5-9am. Finally, the "Kenny Burns Show" has been give an additional hour on Sundays from 2pm to 7pm.

It looks like V-103 is now just airing golds and throwbacks just mixed into its general playlist like middays, overnights, and during the mixshows rather than airing a dedicated 2 hour show on Sunday afternoons from now on... :-\

yes good call on v-103. lovin' the music shake-up, hearin' 'keep on movin' in the 1 o'clock hour.

maybe majic will take notice and freshen up their playlist a little

One wishes the addition of the Nick Cannon countdown show were subtle. ::)

That's something you have to take up with the management of CBS Radio corporate offices in NYC whom forced this upon it's leading stations...

V103 was known for the Old School Family Reunion or whatever they recently called it on Sundays. Too bad it's gone :( They also canned the Friday night live broadcast from The Velvet Room.

I heard the Nick Cannon countdown on KZON. I must admit I'm not a big fan. He just doesn't sound "countdown-ish". I'm not sure that I was too much of a fan towards any countdown show since Hollywood Hamilton. Rick Dees I loved when I was younger, but that's only because that was as risky as Star 94 ever was in the 90's in regard to hit music.

Well, so far, none of the previous changes have negatively affected V. Maybe these recent changes may manage to "slip by" as well. I was also hoping that Magic or the other old school r&b station would "switch things up" a little.

Majic might, but I can promise V will immediately react by one upping them (like they did in 2009 when went from all gold Urban Oldies to Urban AC). On Kiss 104.1, that'll be the day hell freezes over considering how predictable Cox is with its urban stations. Cox doesn't care about properly programming urban formatted stations, they only care if they bill well to their expectations. I hoped Kiss 104.1 would have transitioned back to the Urban AC format years ago after 97.1 Jamz was kaput, but they are still Urban Oldies.

The 12-2pm time slot now has an official name and host "Neo-Soul and R&B with Terry Bello". Radio vet Terry Bello has now joined the V-103 staff as a weekend host of the classic and contemporary neo-soul show and possible replacement for the currently jockless "Quiet Storm" slow jams show. Bello has been filling-in occasionally as host of the Quiet Storm from midnight to 2am stretch of the time slot over the past couple of weeks as well.

It looks like Rick Caffey and Reggie Rouse is stacking the line-up at V with radio vets on weekends and as fill-ins. Also V is taking on a true "full-service, urban contemporary" format with a variety of weekend specialty shows ranging from Caribbean music on Saturdays @ noon to neo soul on Sunday afternoons to multiple old school mix shows on a daily basis not seen or heard on the average urban-formatted radio station these days. All the while spinning some crossover and top40 songs in their other mix shows.

Looks like I wont be there to experience anything V103 does for the summer since I'm supposed to be coming in September. Well, everyone's having a mega switch up. Lets see what 104.1 has in store to come.... even though I somewhat feel that 104.1 really isn't too necessary in Atl. If they flipped formats, people would have other convenient options on the dial to fill the "void"...

i do love the mix of music they're playing, trying to incorporate more soul urban contemporary like it used to do back in the late 80s and early 90s. good job v-103

what i'm not real crazy about is this jazz/soul/neo i'm hearing. it gets a little too far out of the mainstream for me, listening to v-103. i would expect the jazzier mix on 91.9 fm wclk

but otherwise, hats off to v-103, they're sounding great

I think they are trying to incorporate the entire spectrum of urban music. Personally, I enjoy the eclectic mix of music from a variety of backgrounds on a single station.
