I was wondering if anyone thinks NextMedia is in for some big changes soon. There has been a ton of turn over in the last month and specifically at the Star located up north. First you had half of the morning show vacate which is a position that still has not been filled, next the PD/OM of both stations heads out the door. Which by the way is a position he has been in for less than a year. I have also seen job postings on AA searching for a new Promotions Director which leads me to think that person is also exiting. Yesterday I was on the Star web page and noticed there is no picture/bio for a mid day host. I don't know if this is the way it has always been or if that guy is gone too and I heard yesterday Dana Jang is leaving the area but staying with the company. What is going on?

NM always has a bit of turnover...it is the norm...that said...could they be cobbling together two or three of their suburban signals (similar to nine)? I will admit upfront I have no direct knowledge of this but there does seem to be an inordinate amount of shifting around going on

Unless something has changed, Next doesn't usually simulcast, preffering to focus on the communities in their listening area (probably should have told you to sit down, first, huh?). WZSR & WWYW do a good job targeting the NW burbs, XLC and WKRS target Lake County, WIIL targets pretty much the north burbs of Chicago and southern burbs of Milwaukee (are they the only class B NM has in the area?), WLIP covers Kenosha. Same with the southern stations. In fact, the only one I can think of that's moved to cover a larger city is WEXT which moved to cover Milwaukee better.

NM has WEXT, WLIP, & WIIL in their Wisconsin cluster, and WIIL is their only Class B 50kw station in both the Kenosha and Chicago suburban clusters. All other stations in the Chicago suburban clusters are Class A stations, and many can't be located any closer to Chicago to compete with Chicago, so serving the communities the signals are strongest is the best thing NM is doing. In the case of WEXT, I don't know if they're getting more advertising for Milwaukee County since NM moved that station's signal to Oak Creek, but the move did boost their ratings a full point since Kenosha County is rated with Chicago rather than Milwaukee.

I believe Kenosha was given to Milwaukee... I know that's what Neilsen did for TV anyway. (Though, Chicago has 'significantly viewed' status on the cable there)

Last time I checked the Arbitron website, the map showed Kenosha County rated for the Chicago market for radio, but Milwaukee for TV. I personally think if Kenosha County is rated, it should go in with the Milwaukee Arbitron books, but I believe Milwaukee radio stations don't want to pay to include Kenosha County because Kenosha County isn't in many of the stations' primary countours. Plus Kenosha County is basically fringe contour for Chicago stations, so it really doesn't make sense to cover that county for Chicago. Here's the link for the various markets Arbitron covers and what counties are included in each market. Arbitron last updated it in Fall 2004:
