Who says they will? Apparently their billing is very good, based on some demo numbers.
And let's also remember one of the reasons K-Rock came about: to take on DVE and protect The Big K.
In the year that K-Rock's been around, we've seen DVE tie KDKA in overalls; KDKA come back and beat DVE handily in overalls; and now one trend has Y108 on top of DVE and tied with KDKA.
It appears that the K-Rock is doing its job, by keeping DVE at bay. (But see my remarks below.)
However, DVE's numbers have been pretty stable as well. So, what gives?
COUNTRY.
We're in a country resurgence, which happens every 10-15 years or so. The last one was about 1992-95; the one before--the Convoy/CB/Smokey and the Bandit craze of the late 70s. It's hard to believe, but the Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, et al. popularity was that long ago.
But here we are--country (and country rock) are big time now. So, barring a fluke book (always possible), we have country as the cause for DVE's fall this time--not K-Rock.
Let's remember also that K-rock was not meant to go head to head with The X--105.9 is its own animal, and one of a handful of alt rock stations left.
If you were looking at the overalls from the past year, I can see your misconception that K-rock should flip. But the summer book of a year ago was either (a) still some CHR numbers, or (b) seeing what the new thing is about. Since pretty much Fall 04, K-Rock has been steady in the upper 3s.
K-Rock may well flip, post-Stern. But I doubt it--it's a valuable tool right now to keep cluster-mate Y108 on top until this country fad dies down a bit (they all do). But to remain viable, I suggest that K-Rock get a LOCAL morning show to replace Stern. David Lee Roth will not do.
