Sudden Mid-Season Oprah move

Dayton, OH. It was announced a couple of days ago that Oprah will leave her long time home of WDTN, Channel 2 at 4pm to go to WKEF, channel 22 at 5. This is effective December 29. My question is: who p-oed who off for this to happen so suddenly in mid-season after almost 20 years? is this fallout from the LIN (who owns WDTN) debacle which had channel 2 off of cable for a month (they got back on just in time for sweeps)? Is LIN having issues with syndicators? Enquiring minds want to know.

No idea what WDTN plans to do with the slot

I don't know if this is the case, but I read that Oprah is very expensive and even though it gets ratings it wouldn't be cost effective it it was stand alone.

Stations use Oprah 'cause it keeps the audience following into such shows as the news. And there they can sell their news for more.

So it might be simple math, it's cheaper to dump costly Oprah and get a much cheaper show as long as the profit is equal or more.

Maybe now the station in the market that airs Dr. Phil can move them to 4 PM.

Does anyone know what WDTN did with the 4pm slot Oprah occupied? WDTN's program guide still shows Oprah occupying the slot.

TV Guide dot com shows that The Doctors is now at 4pm, right after Bonnie Hunt. It also shows that WDTN added Better to the schedule at 2pm.

Do you think Oprah is out-pricing her show in these hard economic times? How many billions did she make last year?

Oprah didn't do a Favorite Things episode this year due to the economy. I think she'd be savvy enough not to do that.

(Although the Favorite Things cancellation might have been due to companies being reluctant to give stuff away below cost)
