Sugarbear Fired

If it's true, that is not good. He IS JAMZ 96.3. Who / what is your source?

That's a big clue, well that means several peeps are leaving also including his son "Baby bear" who did Sundays. Ya gotta wonder what's happening over at ABC.

Typical ABC.....he probably stepped on the wrong toes and they didn't like the little "boo-boo" they got! I'm sure that Callahan had something to do with it.
They'll probably replace him with someone that is an intern or something that is willing to accept minimum wage and at ABC that's around 4 bucks an hour! The tower is leaning ever further into the ground before 1 BIG CRASH!!

Seriously, how stupid is that? He started the station..lately, he was the only one worth listening to. The new night show that they will have will be awseome when Biz takes over the drive. A show long over do for the man. However, I do wonder why he got fired. Not like they really needed to compete with a station up the dial or anything, why even try? Hip hop is different from CHR Rythmic...either they want competition (hello stupidity) or they don't realize how good it is to be the ONLY station playing what you do. Kiss is a hot station..for the people who like that kinda music. I don't see anyone who listens to a Jada Kiss remix turning on Kelly Clarkson.

Jack 96.3, playing what we want! *rofl*

Theres no reason for jamz to be going after kiss on the air like they have been. Like you said, theya re different formats. People like Kevin Callahan probably wanted jamz to do this and sugarbear wasnt willing to follow through. Just goes to show how nervous a 6000 watt station like kiss is making that company

Don't "Jack" WAJZ up with this crummy flash-in-the-pan (make that trash-in-the can) format!

Re: Sugarbear Fired from WAJZ--but not from Albany Broadcasting itself, hopefully!

Hopefully, he's building a new Urban AC station at 104.9 of which he'll be the Program Director.

If it's true, I feel bad for Ron, but in my opinion, most people don't tune in for the DJ, they want to hear music, unless you are a morning show that does all talk; Wolf, Stern, etc. ABC isnt losing anything by getting rid of Ron financially! Look at the River and 'TRY, they are voice tracked almost all day and night except for the morning show. Jamz could Voice Track and liner the station to death, and still finish in the top ten, just because they have the coverage in Albany (Thatcher Park), as opposed to the "community" tower in Clifton Park for Kiss FM. Just my opinion...

Yes, Ron was on Fly for awhile. Don't feel bad for the guy? He worked his ass off for the station since day 1 and he's got 6 mouths to feed. I'm NOT defending him, but you have to feel something for the guy that's all.

Did anyone read the Gazette about the ABC news? Nothing new to say but Dan Austin is the GM now, Pat Ryan is in sales.

Last time I checked, 102.3's contour was larger than 96.3's. Even though they are both class A's, 96.3 is not a full class A. They are a reduced power class A. (96.3 operates at 470 watts, if they were a full 6kW class A, they would be operating at 690 watts). Whereas 102.3 is a full class at at the maximum 4.1kW @ 118 meters. So to think that 96.3 has a larger coverage area than 102.3 is technically incorrect.

WAJZ-FM a "Class A"? HA!

A reduced power "Class A" is no "Class A" at all! Pamal should get the hell real and make 96.3 go all the way--and give it a better signal--or CAN they?

They can't because of 96.7. According to the construction permit applied for, from the FCC, they are operating under 73.215 protection status (WAJZ is) and reduced power to protect 96.7.

Here is verbatim from the Application.
"Pamal Broadcasting, Ltd., proposes to use the
provisions of §73.215 of the Commission's rules
to address this shortspaced situation. The
shortage to this facility complies with §73.215(e)
of the Commission's rules. The provisions
of §73.215 will be met by uniformly reducing the
effective radiated power of WAJZ."

I spoke to Bear this week, he's in good spirits, had a very positive demeanor during our conversation and is focused on landing his next opportunity. Don't know if he's aware of this board or not, but I'm sure that if he was he would be much appreciative of the kind words said about him.

Obviously one of the good guys who "gets it". I wouldn't be surprised to see his name mentioned for several situations soon.<P ID="signature">______________
