Suggestion for WSBK and viewers

I live in Rhode Island and WSBK has'nt been carried on Cox Cable or Directv for quite a long time.

I for one would love WSBK to go back to it's old "TV-38" moto. With WSBK as an Indy there is a better chance for WSBK to return to local cable systems outsite of Mass.
So her's what I did.

I went to the UPN38 website and clicked on contact us and ask that question and asked the rurn of "Ask the Manager". I 'm sure my suggestion will be properly filed in the trash can but if they get enough of these suggestions. They may take into consideration the popularity of the old TV-38.

Not a fan of the UPN network with the exception of WWE. Hopefully CW will have something worth watching.

While I, too, long for the days of the WSBK Superstation, I don't see it happening. The landscape has changed. With video on-demand, Netflix, and premium cable offerings, a weeknight edition of "The Movie Loft" isn't viable. "Ask the Manager" had difficulty even ten years ago, garnering enough questions/comments to maintain the program. The best that could happen is an "Ask the Manager" blog on the station's website.

Ideally, they need to be quite aggressive in acquiring sports broadcast rights. (Although I'm not sure how successful they will be with both the Sox and Bruins having ownership interest in NESN).

I have to believe that CBS Corp. has something up its sleeve with WSBK. Tribune got the top three markets with the new CW; Philly and San Francisco's CBS Corp. stations got it as well. Why not Boston? WSBK is a Superstation, able to be carried on cable and satellite systems across the country. Perhaps they want to utilize this unique station to its fullest, by keeping first-run cable rights within the corporate structure in a new WSBK.

Great Idea! I was thinking the same thing, but I wasn't sure how people would react. Glad to see I'm not the only one. We should all do this!

There's still very little chance of that happening. It's a different world than it was in the days before "syndex" and even with no UPN, 38's syndicated programming would overlap with that of surrounding markets. Even as an indy, 38 would be subject to syndex laws.

Besides, cable companies have been booting out-of-market stations off for more cable networks for years. I don't think this is a trend that's going to be reversed anytime soon. Unfortunately the concept of a "superstation" is dead.

There's one way, and only one way, I could see 38 returning to its former glory: Sports. If 38 had exclusive rights to the Red Sox throughout New England, Sox fans would demand cable carriage for 38. But that assumes that CBS actually cares about making 38 a superstation again, and I doubt they do. An exclusive contract like that would cost insane amounts of money.
