Suggestions For Musicradio WABC

I think they should try the same type of show that was on The Time Machine on WNBC in the late eighties.

They should be ultra tight and liberal with jingles. Chime time is good too.

To improve on WNBC, they should play any music that was played on WABC Musicradio up to around 1975.

Instead of clusters of music and spots, play no more than two minute of spots per break, but play no more than two songs in a row as a twinspin.

What else should they do?<P ID="signature">______________

very simple just two words: HAVE FUN!

Don't be like CBS-FM, play variety 50s-70s

I'd keep it to late 50s- early 70s with very little 70s past 74. The show doesn't need to sound like the other so-called vanilla oldies stations in every other market.

Highlight NY-based groups and artists, like DION, BOBBY DARIN, The BRILL BLDG. SOUND, DRIFTERS, etc. with lots of Motown, Beach Boys, Beatles/ British Invasion, Elvis, Teen Idola.

Don't just play the top-10s either. Play great songs such as FLAMING EMBER'S "Mind, Body and Soul," a gem from 1969-70 (Where did I hear that great one recently? Surely not on an oldies statoin!), DALE WARDS's "A Letter From Sherry" (1964) and TROY SHONDELL'S "This Time" and the CASTELLS "Sacred" from 1961. It would be good to hear treats like the REGENTS' BARBARA ANN too instead of always relying on the crutch version by the Beach Boys (my favorite group along with CHICAGO BTW).

Play the biggies of course but not to death. After all, MARY WELLS did have several other big top 20 hits instead of the one only played ad nauseum, much like NEIL DIAMOND, TEMPTATIONS, ROY ORBISON, et al. Add some variety here and there.

In short, I'd do everyting WCBS didn't do in its last few years, where all you heard was Elton John, Bette Midler, Barry White. The station seemed to run away from its roots and its listener base.
