Summer '05 Arbitron Ratings

Summer '05 Arbitron Ratings just released....

Interesting book! A number of changes have happened.

Top 20:

KYGO still #1, KOA surpasses KQKS for #2 spot, KXKL rises to #3, KQKS falls to #4, KOSI #5.

KBCO falls to #6, KRFX #7, KBNO rises to #8, KXPK rises to #9, KBPI #10, KTCL #11, KALC rises to #12, KJCD #13, KHOW #14, KIMN falls to #15, KQMT #16, KDJM falls to #17, KEZW #18, KJAC #19

Notable stations:

KMGG continues to fall and is in #21 with KJMN right behind at #22 - I believe executives at Clear Channel gotta be thinking what they did wrong with changing KISS to a station that is no where as competitive. I know, it's kinda early but KMGG doesn't seem to be pulling in what KFMD was giving them. Also, KBNO & KXPK with such high ratings in the Spanish demo has got to be killing KMGG.

Other notes...
Very interesting seeing KQKS fall a bit from #2 to #4 but where did the listeners go? Certainly not where you'd think to KMGG. I believe KOA pulled to #2 spot due to the much high hurricane season and the sitution in the Gulf coast. KBPI and KTCL still right behind eachother and KALC pulling past KIMN. KJAC still continues to slide after it's great start and KDJM falling more after a nice trend. With KDJM do you think with these numbers that Infinity might just change KDJM to talk?? We will see.

Again interesting numbers...anyone wanna discuss what they think???

Thats a good analysis.

I'm surprised by KS107.5's slip, but I wouldn't panic yet either. And you do bring up a good question of where the listeners went. Chances are they might've gone to Mainstream Top 40s KKMG/Colorado Springs and KSME/Ft.Collins, whose presence can be felt with those fringe signals. Plus with some Rhythmics opening up their playlists to DHT and Madonna as of late, maybe its time for KQKS to revisit the idea, even if it means adding some reggaeton, which that station steers clear of.

As far as KMGG is concerned I don't its a setback, but don't write its obituary yet. Clear Channel will stick with Mega for the long haul so don't look for them to go Top 40 again, for now.

Personally if Infinity does flip KDJM to talk that will be a shocker. I'm surprised by how long this station has survived with this format and its incarnations they have had.

Robert, I think your right about where the KS listeners went. I am hearing a lot of KKMG and KISS FM Northern Colo at different places I go. I even listen to KKMG and KSME more lately. Also, I do think that KQKS should revisit the idea of adding some mainstream tracks like DHT and Madonna like a lot of other Rhythmics are doing. I just don't ever seeing them adding any type of reggaeton (which IMO I think they should). I think they are leaving that to KMGG.

I don't know about that Robert. KMGG isn't making any type of money for CC. I just don't see why they would stick with a format that just isn't working. I also don't seem them going back to Top 40/Main either. CC has pissed off the audience they once had with KFMD and if they did switch back then I don't see many listeners going back either.

I would love to see the FM Talk format come to Denver. It would shake Denver radio up which IMO I think we need. But I don't think it's gonna happen. I will be surprised myself if it does. KDJM just isn't what it once was. KDJM is just stale and old. It's back to where it first launched but it's just tired out and it shows. It's been through many incarnations like you stated and may just go through another one. If something isn't done soon to help KDJM then look for them to continue to fall.

I still stick to my reasoning (like I have for the past 3 years) that KDJM should be a TRUE Urban AC. It really gets me that everyone (including Arbitron) labels it an Urban AC when in all aspects it's far from a Urban AC. Like we know KDJM went through a transition to a true Urban AC back a couple of years ago but never stuck with it. I think KDJM needs to transition back to a TRUE Urban AC and stick with it. The air personalities are there but the music selection isn't.<P ID="signature">______________

I'll go out on a limb and predict CC will switch MEGA to LA PRECIOSA by the end of the year. Total speculation on my part, but with Mega doing poorly and KBNO-AM in the top 10 I could easily see it happening.

KXKL doing so well caught my attention.
